I learned from my first towing adventure this weekend that I do need to wire my Blue Ox Apollo directly to the battery. It was overwhelming my circuit for my cigarette lighter and popping the fuse. Are these battery direct connections all the same? I assume it is just battery leads run to a cigarette lighter adapter. Correct? Seems the Brake Buddy one is a much better deal then the Blue Ox one and much more readily available. Thoughts?

You will need to use a fused connection in either case.

I believe both the BB & Blue Ox products have an in-line fuse. The Blue Ox manual stresses the importance of having full amperage available for its power source and the cig. lighter circuit seems to have several things in-line in the vibe.

Put another power outlet in the CRV, just for the Brake Buddy, direct wired to the battery. The 98 CRV has a 10 or 15 amp fuse(can't remember) for the installed outlet. The BB poped it every time. I put a fuse at the battery and the BB has one built into the plug.

Anything direct wired to the battery must be fused for safety. Use a larger fuse if you need to, so it won't blow in normal use, and put the fuse as close to the battery as possible.

If you don't fuse this line you are asking for big trouble.

Most add-on lighter type receptacles come with an in-line fuse. I had to add one to my Jeep as the Even-Brake system called for a minimum capacity of 15 amps while the Jeep's lighter was fused for only 10 amps.
