We will be picking up our new fiver in about two weeks and we want to put new tires on it as soon as we get it home. It's a Keystone Laredo 35-footer and I've already heard that Keystone uses a cheap China-made tire on their fivers. We don't want to risk a blowout.

What brands should I be looking at for our fifth wheel? We have 15-inch rims.

I did a few searches on the topic and kept coming up with threads on specific brands/models of tires. I don't know if these are truly the best, or what. Trying to get a list of good ones to consider. We'll go as expensive as we need to to get the best tires. We just had two tires blow out on our 16-foot utility trailer so we don't want that to happen with a fiver.

Thanks!

This is a controversial subject. My new Cougar 292RKS came with white steel wheels and Mission ST235/75R15 D tires. Right or wrong, I personally did not feel good about them so I replaced them right away. (I have had two blowouts on motorhome tires ... I'm a bit skiddish I guess)

I went with 16" Sendel T02 machined aluminum trailer wheels and BF Goodrich Commercial TA All Season tires in LT225/75R16 E. I also added a Pressure Pro TPMS on the trailer tires. The TV has built-in TPMS.

Our initial trip was over 1000 miles. I have about 1500 miles on them now, and I have much more confidence now than I would have had with the 15" ST Mission tires.

I like the look of the new wheels too:

I think the Michelin XPS RIB has the best reputation as far 16" replacement tires go but they are almost twice as expensive as the BFGs. Obviously I went with the BFGs and am very happy with them.

I don't have first hand experience with 15" ST tires, but if you stay with the 15" wheels then I have read frequently that Maxxis makes a good 15" ST tire.

I put 16 inch aluminum wheels and LT225/75R/16 E rated B F Goodrich Commercial TA's on my Cougar 309EFS and they fit fine with no modifications. No more tire worries.

My 2008 Keystone came with goodyear tires on it. If you are going to change tires, I would go with load range E 10 ply tires.

Our rig came with Milestar. We swapped them out for Maxxis before the first trip. We have 16" wheels from the factory.

I know Interco is a good brand that makes off roading tires and I've heard they are going to be making trailer tires soon.

Have used Cooper ST205/75R15's for about 40,000 miles so far. No troubles at all on these USA made tires.

My second choice would be Maxxis.

I do not buy Chinese tires, your choice.

Dennis, What did it cost you to upgrade your tires/rims? My 07 Keystone Challenger came with chinese tires and steel rims and I want to upgrde also. Thanks John

Sendel 16" T02 wheels = $95 each
BFG Comm TA tires LT225/75R16 = $128 each
Chrome metal stem = $6.50 each
Chrome lugnuts = $1.75 each
Mount/Balance = $10.50 each
Credit for 15" tire/wheel = -$50 each

A wheel/tire shop near the dealer did it for me. It was a shop that does a lot of wheel/tire work for the dealer. I negotiated the swap with the wheel/tire shop directly and paid them directly ... I had the dealer drop it off and pick it up from the wheel/tire shop. That way the trailer had the new wheels and tires on it when I took delivery.

I too would like to know how much to upgrade. Also where did you find the wheels?

The Sendel wheels are only $66 in 15 inch and $80 for the 16 inch at Gearworks Manufacturing where I bought mine. Small difference but if you buy 5 it adds up!
