Some people are just poor with math and repeat what the trip computer max was.

Not only poor with math, but don't have the foggest notion of where to begin to figure miles per gallon. And it seems the trip computer does not know how either.

On flat level highways I get about 14, add some wind and depending on direction I might drop down a little.

Using that criteria we get over 16 with our DSDP. On downhills I've seen 254 mpg. but the REAL mileage is around 8 mpg.

When people talk about mileage they mean the overall average, not just a flash reading under ideal conditions.

BINGO!! The REAL mileage of an older 460 will come in less than 7 mpg and most likely closer to 6 mpg.

Come on guys, don't burst my bubble! I just purchased a 1991 460 Chieftain 36ft'er. I was starting to get excited about potentially good MPG!!!!

Im taking it out on its maiden voyage (for me) this weekend. It's only 120 miles each way, about 3/4 of it is flat I-5 hwy, and 1/4 winding roads. I know it is only a short sample but it will at least give me a snap shot of MPG.

I'll be keeping the speed down, 60 or below. Being my first trip the emphasis will be cruising with the family, playing music very loudly and having a blast..... The kids want me to turn it into the worlds largest "Mystery Machine" (Scooby Doo Van).

......where will I find all those fluro green and orange decals.. :-)

I have a good friend who happens to be a top notch mechanic but I always hear that it only took 1/2 tank, etc. I don't care what the fuel gauge sez. what does the fill up ticket say?

I get a cumulative average of 10.5 out of my rig, period. I have clocked pretty near every tank fill up, so I have running totals for years. I don't run over 65 mph, and I don't jackrabbit start. In my owners group website, there are claims of anywhere between 11.5 & 14.5 mpg, even when towing, from other owners. I've never towed anything! I call their claims, BS.

11.5 to 14.5 deffenitly does not sound beleivable, 10.5 sounds like streaching it too, especially for a DP. I recall in earlier posts you mentioned you have a DP. Please inform us what type of rig you own, we would be interested in knowing more about the rig and the millage it gets...

I was not kidding when I suggested Odometer error.I think it can happen. That would also add extra miles to your rig unnecessarily.

I had an 89 Chieftain 27 that weighed 12,99 with a full tank of fuel. It could just barley get 8mpg running at a strict 60mph in the interstate. My mileage was run with GPS calibration of speedo and odo. Michelin RV tires, perfect tune, alignment and everything else that could improve mileage.

The 96 with injection and four speed might be able to get 9.

Maybe he lied, maybe he's never really checked, or maybe he innocently inverted the formula and misplaced the decimal, eg. 600miles/80gal = 7.5 MPG. But using 80gal/600miles he would get 13.3 (.1333). I've seen it done!

I call them BS, too.

What kind of Class A are you driving?

I just choose not to figure it out at all, that way I have no clue and *guess* I'm getting 7-8mpg.

I just bought a 99 Itasca Sunrise 32, on the p32 chassis and 37k miles(paid 21k), I have only took mileage with one partial tank since I only had it for a little over a month, but I averaged right at 10 mpg with the 454 FI. Everything is stock except the suspension parts(all steer safe). My v10 98 Class C Tioga I had used alot and for some long trips over the mountains..normal for that was 12mpg..but was a small 21 footer and I drove it faster.

Itasca Sunrise 32.2 454 FI
