Has anyone had a hood that wouldn't unlatch? What's the secret?

There is an indoor hood unlatch that pops it open to the first stage, then a secondary latch that is just under the hood, you have to find that one. There is a tab connected to it.

If all else fails, go to Wal Mart and ask the people who do the oil changes to show you how to open it. Or go to the local Ford dealer and ask to see the engine on one of the vans. They are all the same.

Sometimes the latch might be a little more difficult to open. This can be because of hood mis-alighnment.

The main hood release is on the left kick panel under the dash. The secondary catch is reached through the grill, near top center. It pushes right, as you face it.

You must lift as you release the catch, the hood does not really "pop up" the way a lot of car hoods do.

I am under the impression the original post knows how the hood should open, but it isn't cooperating.

You need two people to try this.

Have someone else pull the latch inside, and keep it pulled hard. You stand outside and try to lift the hood. If it won't budge an inch, press down on the hood with your palms and then lift quickly.

Maybe it is unlatched, but the hood's pop-up spring isn't doing it's job. When the inside latch is let go, the main latch once again is keeping the hood locked.

It's worth a try.

Try the two person method above, and have the person on the outside bang down on the hood with both hands whale the other person has the inside lever pulled. When you get it open, oil every thing on the hood latch and henge's, and it wont happen again, for a while.
