Hello,
We took our new Jayco Designer 34RLQS on its first trip this past weekend. Everything went well with the trailer except we had a problem with the front and rear landing gear. The front landing gear would blow a fuse when we tried to raise the trailer to hitch up the trailer. Went through 3 or 4 fuses then just quit. Next morning the front landing gear worked like new.
Also, had a problem with the rear landing gear. It would quit when I attempted to raise the gear. It did not blow a fuse, just quit. I could wait a minute or two and would hear a click then the gears would work again.
I took the trailer in to the dealer and they said:
Since the front landing gear is working now there is nothing they
can do. Not very comforting. If you have ever tried to hand crank
up front landing gear you know this is not fun.
Also, said there is a built in breaker that was tripping on
the rear landing gear. I asked why it would trip like this.
They had no clue.
I know the front gear will act up again and don't look forward to the prospect of being in a lurch. Really keeps you on edge.
Has anyone else had this problem and what was the cure?
Thanks for taking time to reply.

I'd call Jayco ASAP. They may be able to provide some help on this. The 'Authorized Jayco' dealer should have done this on your behalf but probably didn't want to appear inept to Jayco. If there's an intermittent short, you could end up with other problems.

Charlie I have a 36 RLTS and have had a few landing gear problems too. The front gear wiring wound up on the drive and blew a fuse. The wiring was not damaged so after I unwound it and replaced the fuse it worked fine. I made sure to remount the wires securely away from any moving parts. It also just stopped working once but after I pulled the fuse out and replaced it, the gear worked again. I have not been able to track it down either.
The rear jacks stopped working just like you are describing. I found that the rubber boot over the end of the motor had somehow gotten water inside it. I took the boot off and let it dry and it worked fine. My dealer sealed the boot on with silicone and I have had no further problem although I expect one since I think the water made it's way into the boot by running on the winding gear as I drove in the rain.
Let me now if you find out any different.

I have learned not to raise the trailer to level using the rear electric jacks. Yes it trips the internal breaker. Next time, try lowering your rear landing jacks to a snug setting to the ground and use the front landing gear to raise the front to level.
Your intermittent problem with the front gear needs to be explored further. Sounds like a short in either the switch, or fuse panel, or electric motor. Try wiggling the wires in these areas when someone else operates the switch. Hope this helps

I have the problem also. We have a new RLSA with the remote option on the landing gear and this is the problem. We blew a fuse and the remote did not work but the switch on the camper did. Where is your fuse if you don't have the remote option.

Disclaimer: This just happened to me and my "fix" hasn't been tested yet.
I just got a new Copper Canyon, haven't even left the city in it yet....
Hooked it up to tow to storage, landing gear worked fine. Parked it at storage, landing gear dead.
Have since found a 30 amp flat fuse in the line that is blown. My service guy says he sees it all the time, and recommended I install a 40 amp circuit breaker in place of the fuse. I haven't done it yet, but I'm gonna. Evidently, it is either that route, or carry a box of fuses all the time...
You should make up your own mind about swapping any electrical components.
Good luck

I bought a new 07 Jayco 34RLQS and while getting waranty work done, was told there is a recall on the landing gear breaker. The dealer put in a bigger breaker, no charge. Hopes this helps.

Got a new Eagle back in November.Everything was fine till about the third trip. Then the same thing started hapening. It would blow the fuse when I raised it, not when I lowered it. Got to looking in the front where the moter attaches to the metal rod that runs across to the other side of the landing gear and a electical cord was wraped around that metal rod. It had worn the insulation off the wire and was causing a direct short to ground. I unwraped the wire, put some electrical tape on it and everthing is fine now. You might want to look at that before you take it to the dealer.

Georam1,
I would appreciate it if you would describe how to locate the rod and motor you are talking about.
Thanks
