We use the 2007 edition of “The Next Exit.” It highlights in red all services, including service stations, that are RV accessible. We have found this to be fairly accurate, but it is limited to the Interstate Highway System.
I use the truck stops also. I tend to drive at night on long road trips (keeps the girls at bay-sleeping). I always pre-plan the trip on the internet noting truckstops along the way. Plus, they're always open.

A guy yesterday pulled into a small residential gas station around here and blocked the main road at rush hour while waiting to pull up to the ONE diesel pump. Oblivious to even my coaxing to pull up to the guy at the pumps bumper to clear most of the road.

One pet peeve with gas stations is why they hide the diesel pump. Why can't they have a sign, flag or something that can be seen from the road as you drive by.
I'm new at towing a fiver and still get nervous when forced to enter a gas station, I know in time I'll get better at towing but for the time being fueling gives me heart burn.

3. Doesn't matter what your capacity is - you can still have a
problem when it's time to get to the pump/s. (Back to #2).

This is not true. Our capacity gets us all the way from our typical point A to point B with fuel to spare. Atlanta to Orlando or Atlanta to Destin.
Once at Point B we fill up during our stay without the fiver attached.
This is the beauty of having more than 700 miles of fuel capacity towing and more than 1500 miles of fuel capacity when not towing.

Not everyone has the need for or wants a 60 or 100 gal fuel tank in the rear of their truck. The diesel pumps in NON truck stop stations are not intended for large RV's or big trucks but for the diesel car or work trucks. Many non truck stop stations are designed so that when you pull in you are looking at a building and you have limited turn ratio. Many non truck stop stations are in residential or congested area. Plan ahead on your long trip. Know where the truck stops are along the way. Truck stops are designed for large vehicles and for parking large vehicles. Flying J, Loves, Pilot, and many independent truck stops along any route will make fueling easier.
We stop at truck stops and use the truck pumps. We are just too long to get into regular pumps most of the time. When fueling at the truck pumps, fuel and then move your rig forward so the next person in line can use the pumps. Then go in and pay or pick up your receipt. The truckers are not unhappy with you fueling there if you follow that procedure.

Well, we really don't see the problem. We have been RV'er's for some 40+ years now, and have never had any problems getting in and out of Gas Stations, and we also use Diesel. Of coarse being an RV'er for 40+ years, and also being an Old Time OTR Trucker for 15 years, I haven't found a place yet, that I can't get my rig in or out of. As said by anothher Poster, don't be afraid to block an entire section, as you have evey right to get fuel as the next person. All, except much older station always have more than enought roof clearance. Know your RV's hight. Most over-hangs will have thiers marked. If you don't feel comfortable going for an inside pump, then wait and take an outside pump. We have been at quite a few very small gas stations over the years, that we totally block the entire gas station from any other users. But that is life. We try to us Truck Stops as much as possible, when every we can, but it always doesn't work out like that. espically if you travel a lot of back roads and small towns. We also know how far it is to the next gas station, as we use a GPS System also. But for extended trips, in areas, espically late at night traveling, we do carry two extra 6 gallon Diesel cans, which can get us quit a miles down the road. Our F-250 PSD H.D already has twin Diesel Tanks as it is. Those two tanks gives us approx 375 miles. We don't like to run short, so when I finsih one Diesel Tank, and I switch to the second tank, I am already looking for the next station, and will stop as soon as possible and refill the emtpy Diesel tank and also top off the second tank. So far, we have never run out of Diesel, or have had to wait for a station to open. We usually stop anyways, after about two hours of driving, for a quick brake, to get out and strech our legs. And I try to make the Diesel stop, and brake all at the same time. As time goes on, you'll get more and more pratice with your rig, and it will become second nature after a while, and you won't even put any thoughts to it. Good Luck. Happy camping, Dan * Jill

One thing I do check when looking for a fuel stop is, the pump island being parallel with the building and can I get out by driving straight through. Just takes a second to eyeball for that info, and decide yes or no. Other than that, yep, truck stops. Had an unmarked overhang catch me last fall to the tune of a 700$ roof repair, so I stay as far away from buildings while fueling as possible.
