I hooked up my TV to my TT for the first time today. I'm using the the "equalizer" hitch. Does this look right?

My measurements were as follows...

TV alone front...38 3/8" back...40 7/8"

TV w/TT on ball alone front...38 1/4" back...38 1/4"

TV w/TT and WD front...38 1/4" back...38 3/4"

BTW... The measurements were from the ground to the top center of the fender as per the instructions.

Remeasure. It would be very unusual for the front end of the TV to be higher unhitched than it is hitched without the w/d.

You want to get the spring bars tight enough so the front drops a bit and the rear drops equally or a bit more. Level the trailer with the position of the hitch head on the hitch shank. Provide 5 or 6 links of chain under tension (for room for movement when turning) by adjusting the angle of the hitch head.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

I'm taking it out again Friday. I'll have to double check the measurements. I thought something didn't look right. Thanks

IMO you need to add a washer in the head if it is an Equal-i-zer hitch.

There are 5 in there now. Maybe raise the L-brackets up one hole?

You can put as many as 8 in there if I recall correctly. You want the spring bars to be level with the L brackets. If you raise the L brackets, make sure the bars are not pointing upward. Better to tilt the hitch head to get more tension if the bars are level now.

From those numbers, it appears the weight distribution bars are not doing anything, as no heights changed between them being unhooked and and hooked up.

It does sound strange that frontend went down after the trailer was hooked up but before the bars were hooked up.

I'll bet it's a typo or misread. It's probably 39-1/4", not 38-1/4".

I just re-measured my truck empty.

The front is 38 1/8" (old measurment was 38 3/8") Maybe I did measure wrong yesterday.

The back is the same.

If I did get it wrong yesterday and it was 38 1/8" then everything is starting to make more sense. When I hook it up Friday I'll re-measure everything again.

Overall I think the fact that my truck only squatted down 2 5/8" with a 30' TT w/o a WD hooked up is pretty good for a 1500.

Can someone please explain the "washers in the head" of an equalizer thing? We have an equalizer, and when the hitch is in, and the camper not hooked up, it rattles like there is extra room somewhere. Is that where the washers idea comes in?

Also, we are headed to Yellowstone from KC. I am worried that the whole hitch thing isn't perfect, and that we'll be sorry on the trip. Does anyone have details that I could check out my setup to make sure we will be OK?

Thanks in advance!
