I have been using my blue tote now for about a year and half. The wheels that came with it are starting to look rough along with that I can be heard throughout the campground when going to the dump station and with the wife and two small girls that is quite often. Anybody have a modification to the tote for better wheels and to make it quieter?

Thanks

Many forum members have replaced the stock tires with pneumatic tires. Some of them will be along after while to post pics for you.

a couple of 4" pneumatic wheels from tractor supply ($4) and a longer axle rod and 4 push nuts to hold the wheels in position... quieter and easier to pull with the ball bearings...

just remember you will have to be able to stop quick if you get a flat though, you can wear a hole in the tank in a very short distance when its loaded...

you can use almost any old lawn mower wheels to replace a bad wheel...

(the larger the wheels, the higher the tank, the high the plumbing will need to be)

haven't done it yet but will replace mine with the lawn mower hard rubber ones. thought about the air ones but haven't seen any small eunf for the 2 in front that steer-they are underneath in the front so clearence would be a problem i think.

I have one also, but haven't had need of it yet. I did buy the tow handle, but the wheels leave a lot to be desired.

Rather than modify the tote, have you thought about simply strapping it to a handcart?

$26 at Harbor Freight:

This picture shows the cart laying down. The handle can be reconfigured to use it up right. Slight modification so it can be attached to a hitch. Scoop up the blue tote, tip the handcart back, connect it to the hitch. Handcart folds up fairly small when not in use. Might be a cheaper, easier alternative, to modifying the cart.

I changed the rear tires on my 32 gal blue tote.

I used the 10" pneumatic tires from Harbor Freight. Tires. I used the same axle and put new axle caps on the ends from the local hardware store.

I think I will also replace the front tires with the 4" pneumatic tires mentioned in this thread.

Here is a picture of my Barker with the HF 10" Pneumatic wheels installed... In this picture the Blue Boy is mounted on the rear bumper of my previous Nomad 27 footer...

I used the existing "Blue Boy" axles and just drilled the axles for cotter pins using flat washers on each side of the wheel...

Here are the wheels

The "Blue Boy" is now carried UNDERNEATH our 31' Nomad TT on a special mount that drops down with the removal of 2 hitch pins...

as a quick fix you could wrap duct tape around the plastic wheels. I did this to increase traction on my kids power wheels and it quieted them down on the gravel and concrete as it made a cushion

Nice work on the blue tote Les. Looks like it rides under there with no problems.
