Everything they give you for your old truck that is more than what the truck is really worth to them is built back into the price of the truck you buy.

1979 Corolla wagon - replaced the waterpump at ~100K then it got wrecked.
1981 Starlet (remember those?) - transmission got noisy around 100K. Cost $400 at the dealership to fix - had them redo the clutch while they were in there. Sold it to a friend who drove it for another couple years.
1987 4wd pickup - still in the family and pushing 300K. No problems that I'm aware of.
1991 4wd pickup - didn't have a/c so sold it when I moved from Wa. state. Only had about 20K on it but never had an issue.
1993 Paseo - had just rolled over 100K when a little girl turned in front of me and I totalled it. Never had a wrench on it.
The only bad vehicles I've ever had were a 1976 VW Rabbit and a 1980 Olds Cutlass.

Not entirely unique.
Honda is voluntarily covering Odyssey transmission failures up to about 100k miles on a case by case basis due to a high rate of failure on those.
I got Saturn to give me a new engine head when mine cracked at 109k miles due to a known metallurgical defect in the castings that year. Last I checked, they were GM.
Sometimes makers do the right thing when it is very clear they had a defect.

I find it comical the amount of people on here trying to defend the U.S. "big three" automakers. Americans are inherently independent and that transfers to their purchases. They don't feel obligated to buy an American car. They are Americans, and they will buy whatever they feel is best for them, makes the most sense financially, and is the best quality. Time has shown that the automaker most fitting that category is Toyota. You can always find cases where a Toyota was bad. Compared to the "big three", these cases are probably really low. In addition, Toyota has now overtaken the "big three" as the number one seller in the U.S. So go on and call everyone buying Toyotas foolish. I think they are just Americans, who are smart shoppers and get what they want without some foolish obligation to buy American. Also, I do believe my 2007 Tundra was built in Indiana, by Americans.

I donn't think the arguement is about who's cars are better than whos. It's about who is taking care of problems when they should and doing it without undue hassle and legal prodding versus who is leaving customers with legitimate problems hanging out to dry refusing to help. It appears that Toyota is handling their problems lately better than Ford and GM have been handling theirs lately. That is the contrast of the discussion.

THe US of A still makes the best Trucks (and cars) on the Market.
My 2007 Dodge 2500 Cummins Diesel says "Made in Mexico" on the drivers door frame.

Got a Furd built in Kentucky
Got a Toyota built in Kentucky
Got a Toyota built in Canada
All great vehicles. I buy what fits our needs the best. Had a Dodge that was built in Mexico that was actually a pretty darn good truck. Recently rented a Chevy crossover that was downright awful, it was built in the US but powered by a Chinese built engine, should have upgraded to the Tahoe.
