I think you are right on the mark. We live in a subarb of Miami and camp 15-18 a year. One of our favorite escapes is heading down to the Florida Keys. Just the drive down the Overseas Highway is enough to put us in a different frame of mind. Silly though it sounds, one of the things I live for is to see that beautiful blue ocean during the day and at night, to look up into the night sky and see thousands of stars. We can't see too many stars in the city. My children have likewise gained an appreciation of the starry nights - something I doubt they's appreciate were it not for camping. Many of our trips are short weekends, leave Friday/return Sunday. My coworkers often ask me "is it worth the hassle for just a weekend?" Well, on of our last trips last mongh we slept overlooking the Atlantic Ocean breathing in the fresh ocean air. We'd had a nice cool front and we unzipped all the bunk screens on our hybrid - that is what I call peace.

It's wonderful to be able to tiptoe out of the rig in the early morning, just me and the animals (cats and dog) sitting in the predawn light sipping coffee and watching the stars fade as the sun rises. No noise but that of the birds (well, sometimes there's the whine of a skeeter!), a sweet clean breeze, and peace. Doesnt last long but while it does it's Zen.

For me just getting behind the wheel of the truck knowing it's time to go is very relaxing. This week I had to drag the camper around town for some work and it was sheer torture knowing I wasn't leaving the city limits with it.

It's everything that's already been mentioned and more. RVer's are the best people, more at ease, willing to help and they smile more. On a weekend trip I can have a very best friend in minutes and look forward to seeing them again and again on other trips. At home I only know one of my neighbors by name and maybe two others I wave hello and goodbye to.

If you do meet the occasional grumpy, irate or non-social rver (rare), guess what?! After this trip you don't ever have to see them again.

The stars are brighter, the air cleaner, my husband and I have time to talk and dream or sit and do nothing at all but enjoy the view from our rig. We tend to hold hands more and remember what attracted us to each other in the first place. Puppies are also happier as they are with us 24 hours a day when camping.

Whether one calls it decompression, wool gathering, Zen, or zoning out. Oh, yeah, it's nice. Since DW and I both still work, it's the only time we can both "shut down", and just be.
