The guy is a jerk, plain and simple. No foul with removing clothes after they've been sitting IMHO. He should have thanked you for folding his jeans.

I would have absolutely done the same thing. Who is he that people should wait on his time table? He's a jerk and I probably would hae told him so. LOL

I had this happen once. After waiting for thirty minutes, I took out the clothes and neatly placed them on the folding table, put my clothes in the dryer and left.

When I came back before my clothes were dry, I found a note taped to the dryer that said that I shouldn't have touched someone else's clothes and that the person is very concerned with the germs that were most likely on the table where I placed them.

I really wanted to leave a note stating that if they were that concerned about germs, they should have been there waiting for their clothes to finish, but I didn't. I just left and hoped that I wouldn't need to use laundromats very often in the future.

IF I was fool enough to go off and leave my laundry in a three-machine laundromat (which I'm not), I would have thanked you profusely for folding my jeans.

Most folks would have just tossed them on a table or in a basket, which would be about what I deserved.

I have seen people take unattended WET laundry out of a dryer which had stopped. I see no problem with that either.

It's kind of an unspoken rule that you don't leave the machines.

IMHO... if his laundry was so important to him, then he should have been there when the dryer finished so he could have unloaded it or put in more money if the clothes weren't totally dry.

Having spent many hours in laundromats (washaterias for you Texans ) I never hesitated to remove someone's clothes from a dryer if the dryer was done and the owner of the clothes not around. I placed them in a basket or on a folding table and went about my business of finishing my laundry.

Next time just throw them in the trash around back ans say that you didn't see anything in there!

Only kidding. I think it's pretty obvious from the response here that you haven't done a thing wrong, if fact you went above and beyond. Do yourself a favor and don't take that lip off anyone. Next time tell them to have some common (maybe now uncommon) courtesy and wait for his clothes so he can show the respect that he's trying to demand!

You folded his three pairs of jeans and he YELLED at you? Jerk is not strong enough a word! If I use the word I'm thinking of, however, the mods will surely delete me...LOL!!

I met someone who turned out to be a very good friend when I went to my apartment laundry room to find her taking MY clothes out of the dryer. I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience but you didn't do a darned thing wrong, so don't beat yourself up for a single second!

I'm with Burro! If you'd folded MY clothes, not only would I have apologized all over the place and thanked you profusely, I'd have bought you ice cream!

Oh, and Burro -- I don't think that's an "unspoken rule" -- I think it's posted in almost every laundry mat I've ever been in.

An apology was definitely in order.

He should have apologized to you for not being there when the dryer quit.

Okay, some of you are also "jerks" (especially any suggestion of throwing out the clothes). Obviously you people don't use a laundrymat on a weekly basis (not everyone has a washer and dryer at home) and don't have a clue.

I certainly don't have to time to sit for a couple of hours in a laundrymat (which I use all the time, no washer at home) "guarding" my clothes. I either have other stores to hit or work to do at home.

However I DO know how long the load is going to take and I make sure I am back in time (or before) to remove them. Guess what, that does NOT make me a "jerk". On occasion, I am delayed due to circumstances beyond my control, again, that does not make me a "jerk".

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable to remove a load and place it in a basket or on top of the machine, but anything beyond that (as in "retaliatory" action) is a CRIME (vandalism) and YOU can be arrested for it.

On the other side of the coin, I did see a video once from a security camara where someone removed a woman's clothes from a washer and set them neatly aside so he could use that washer. The woman came back and "retaliated" by pouring a whole gallon of bleach in the washer ruining the guy's cloths. Being a jerk goes both ways.

So get over those "He's a jerk" and "I'd throw his clothes away" infantile urges and try being kind and considerate to others. It usually gets returned in the end.
