Sorry,
THAT was what I was defending. Some of us DO have better things to do than stand there watching the clothes go round and round.

And what about us, WE have better things to do than to wait for some one to get their laundry OUT!!!!

About the time the guy starts yelling at me is about the time when I'd then throw his stuff in the trash...

Which part of "I make sure I am back before the load is done" didn't you understand?

Which part of "Circumstances beyond my control" didn't you understand?

I work for our county Sheriff's Office. I am on basically 24/7/365 call. If for some reason I can't get back in time to remove my laundry due to a work emergency in time for your convinence, I am a jerk? I'll be sure to tell that to the family of the victim that maybe dies due to our systems being down! SORRY TO INCONVENIENCE YOU!!!

Talk about the ultimate in me, me, me selfishness, you just took the cake dude.

(Excuse me a moment, I have to go change my laundry (seriously, I really do, becuase I don't want to KEEP ANYONE WAITING!(because I am such a JERK!))).

Where was I... Oh yeah, so basically, don't "assume" that whomever inconveniences you by you having to remove their laundry is sitting back at home with a beer in their hand, watching "da game", laughing at the poor person who has to wait for an available washing machine. Perhaps it is a mom may be delayed because their child was hurt, perhaps a traffic accident, or perhaps, just maybe, someone in law enforcement/public safety doing thier job to help protect the public.

Then again, it may actually be the 1% who is sitting back, laughing at you while they watch TV with a beer in thier hands. So that makes your attitude ALL OKAY!

EDIT: Know what? I am a MUCH bigger jerk for spending so much time arguing over something so silly and trivial than I could ever be by leaving my laundry in a machine. Gawd, I feel so stupid!

My appologies to all, bad night...

Oh man, my bad. Totally missed the wink there.

Whew, going on vacation next week. NEED IT BAD! Wound up WAY too tight lately (that 24/7 job stress).

I'll have more sanity when I get back.

'fraid I have to differ. For one thing, it's not possible to know how long a coin-operated dryer will actually run. They are notoriously unreliable that way. I do my dead level best to return in a reasonable amount of time (no more than an hour, tops). And won't even start if the laundry room is very busy because I can wait if I need to where perhaps someone else can't.

But the first time somebody touches my clothing? It's on. This IS deeply offensive to a good many people for various reasons, and would be offensive no matter how many minutes you waited to do it. (Just heard that complaint from a friend it happened to recently. He was livid, but said nothing to the offender.) It's just...a personal thing. Like, if I wouldn't let you roll around on my bed or rummage through my underwear drawer, why would I allow you to mess with my bedding or underwear (since that's what would be in those places)? It would have creeped me out, and I'm not even a germophobe. And I probably even like you as a human.

I don't THINK there's a neat solution, other than for people like me to be as respectful as possible of people like you to begin with. (It's working ok so far.) But that's about as reasonable as it gets. After that, you're trying to match logic against emotion, and applying more logic doesn't win, even if it IS more logical. It's like eating off someone else's plate in a restaurant. Some will happily, some won't due to old-fashioned etiquette, some get entirely grossed out by it. You can defend any one of those practices all day long, but it doesn't really change how anyone feels about it or how they might react in the face of the offense.

You were short on time. You pitted your money against his personal boundaries. Prolly right on the rules, but came up wrong on the human thing. You don't have to beat yourself up about it. Just try to stay out of that jam if you can. Nobody wins.

Amusing topic.
I hate doing laundry so I carry enough to last me two weeks between trips to the Laundromat. I also have the advantage of being male so I am not bothered by silly things such as sorting and water temps.
I simply stuff everything into a front loader, punch cold and have a seat, I do not leave the premises so I never have issues with people taking my stuff out however I time my visits for first light and I am always the first person there.

Doesn't matter what the cycle time is or what excuse a camper might have for returning late, the courteous thing to do is be there or leave a note giving the next camper the choice to move your stuff to a clothes basket (which you should leave). If the next camper doesn't want to do it -- so be it.

Okay, some of you are also "jerks" (especially any suggestion of throwing out the clothes). Obviously you people don't use a laundrymat on a weekly basis (not everyone has a washer and dryer at home) and don't have a clue.

I certainly don't have to time to sit for a couple of hours in a laundrymat (which I use all the time, no washer at home) "guarding" my clothes. I either have other stores to hit or work to do at home.

However I DO know how long the load is going to take and I make sure I am back in time (or before) to remove them. Guess what, that does NOT make me a "jerk". On occasion, I am delayed due to circumstances beyond my control, again, that does not make me a "jerk".

Yes, it is perfectly acceptable to remove a load and place it in a basket or on top of the machine, but anything beyond that (as in "retaliatory" action) is a CRIME (vandalism) and YOU can be arrested for it.

On the other side of the coin, I did see a video once from a security camara where someone removed a woman's clothes from a washer and set them neatly aside so he could use that washer. The woman came back and "retaliated" by pouring a whole gallon of bleach in the washer ruining the guy's cloths. Being a jerk goes both ways.

So get over those "He's a jerk" and "I'd throw his clothes away" infantile urges and try being kind and considerate to others. It usually gets returned in the end.

People do let time get away from them. Things happen. He went way beyond the "JERK" category when he yelled at the lady. She was nice enough to fold the jeans and he was a moron. If he had done my wife the way kimette says he did her, he would not have needed jeans, only a gown. (of hospital variety) Barbaric? maybe. The only reason he went off was because it was with a woman and that chaps my behind. He needed a beat down for treating her that way.
