Hi all,
I recently purchased a new 5th wheel and asked the mfr prep a "propane connection" so I could continue to use my grill off the built in tanks. After picking the unit up, I realized they had plumbed a low pressure connection behind the regulator which connects to my tanks. I've been told that all grills are low pressure, it's just that most of them have a high pressure connection and a regulator which reduces the connection to low pressure before the gas gets to the flame area. and If I connect a high pressure regulator into a low pressure connection, the regulator will reduce the pressure more to a point that no/little propane will flow. Unfortunately, the regulator on my coleman roadmate has a short metal (brass?) neck which screws into the grill, so my option of cutting the regulator off the hose and installing a quick connect so the grill could only work with low pressure connections seems puzzling. Has anyone done this before with a coleman roadmate grill?

I Got a hose for a sidekick grill, which plugs onto the quick connector under the side of trailer, then I cut the regulator off of the grill fitting, then I got a short piece of 5/16 fuel line hose & hooked them together. It works great. Then I ordered a new regulator assembly from Coleman, in case I want to use it on small propane bottles away from trailer.

ok...so I understand the steps...1. you got a hose with the low pressure quick connect on one end, 2. cut the regulator off the metal tube which connects to the coleman fitting, and then 3. used a small piece of 5/16 fuel line---this last part I don't get...could you not connect the metal coleman fitting to the hose you bought with the low pressure connection? How did you connect the two together --clamps? I like the idea about the spare connection from coleman, I'll have to do it.

I would simply pick up either a Marshall Brass Extend-a-flow or Extend-a-Stay adapter
This goes between your propane tank and regulator
And will provide tank pressure to the LXE
Ishould not say "I would" above... I should say "I DID"
I had the Extend-a-flow on my trailers, and now use the extend-a-stay on my MH

Pdq911 I have been thinking of the same idea. I think by connecting a propane compatible hose to the brass pipe with the other end going to the low pressure gases connection should do the job. With low pressure you should be able to get by with regular hose clamps. Make sure your hose is propane compatible, some hoses are not.

Some thoughts:
1: I don't know the pressure the Coleman's regulator is set at, if it's 11 inches of water then.. OK
2: if you cut the regulator line to attach the adapter hose.. Then should you wish to use the grill w/o the RV you are out of luck.
If you simply install an Extend-a-flow on one of your tanks (or Extend-a-stay on a motor home's mounted tank) you do not modify the grill at all, and should you wish to use the grill with a protable tank or a one pound bottle.... no problem.
I like choices.. The Extend-a-stay on my class A gives me maximum choices

NICE, this Extend-a-Flow is EXACTLY what I was looking for!! I verified the Coleman regulator reduced the pressure to 11lbs so it would work with modifications, but I told my wife we would still need disposable bottles for our lantern and outdoor stove. I'm happy to see that this product will allow me to attach any of our High pressure LP accessories without any modifications or any more small bottles.--Now if I'd only known about this before I paid the mfr $250 to run the low pressure line to the back of the camper.

I have the Roadtrip grill and I simply bought a hose extension with a regulator on it that I hook to the tank and than snap into the connector at the back of the grill. Works great!

What can I say? I can say: "Glad to be of assistance"
With trailers that have removable bottles: Extend-a-flow
With Motor Homes and mounted tanks: Extend-a-stay
The Extend a stay allows you to use an external tank with a motor home.. Been there, done that, it also has other features that are kind of nice. Such as an excess flow valve. I've never tripped it. And I hope I never do.
