All the talk about food reminds me.... Only on camping trips, Mom cooks fruit pastry thingys, apple tarts or something like that.
She cooked them at home once, but it wasn't the same, and everyone said to save them for camping!

Tradition, well traditional rule.
The kids are not allowed to say "Dad" for the first 30 minutes. First couple of times camping I think I heard it every 10 seconds or so.... Sort of distracting while putting up camp. They now always start, but I remind them and they laugh. (ages 6 & 8)

That is a great rule. I'm going to implement that starting tomorrow when we go. I would like to enjoy the process of putting up camp. It can become quite tedious while being pulled in the direction of 4 kids all at once. Good one.

We always have a contest to see who can find the best "marshmallow roasting stick" for sitting around the campfire at night and we also have game night. On our last game night, we had a racoon squeeze right under the screen tent and try to share our snacks..He was a brave little guy!

We used to do S'mores too but now both girls have braces. I certainly don't need the extra calories so I'm not making them just for me !! It will only be a couple of more years.

Thank you to everyone who responded to this - I've gotten some great ideas to take camping with us this weekend! Our traditions - s'mores (of course), lots of UNO with my daughter, cinnamon rolls on Sunday morning, dad makes a huge breakfast on Sat. morning, "hot and cold" with mom at least once around the campsite, and flashlight tag with dad at least one night, weather permitting. When we first started camping, I had a convection oven in our little bitty class C. We used to make brownies for the closest or friendliest neighbors to our campsite. Since we had three small children, we felt we owed it to some of our neighbors - especially if they were retired and putting up with us! We haven't done that in the last few years, and my kids often say they miss it.
