we will be driving through houston and was wondering if their are any
cant miss attractions. Or should we just drive right on by. We are on our way to disneyworld and this will be a general stopping point area. I was thinking about visiting the battleship texas since I had an old golfing buddy who was on that ship during d-day. And of course any suggestions on a place to stay for the night.

The Johnson Space Center (NASA) is well worth a stop! I'd allow 1/2 day if you're not really into the space program, and a full day if you are.

You might want to stay at Stephen F Austin State Park in San Felipe which is off of I10 west of Houston. You might want to stop at Katy Mills Mall if you have a shopper with you.

You won't find a cg close to the San Jacinto Monument/Battleship which will put you driving back into Houston for the night. I had heard a rumor there was a new cg going in at Baytown (which would be an alternative to driving into Houston) I'll see what I can find.

There are many things to do while in town, the museums, the zoo, shopping at the Galleria, many wonderful restaurants to choose from, the Kemah Boardwalk....the list is endless.

Be aware that gridlock (rush hour)traffic is 6-9 a.m. and pretty much all day Friday, so avoid it if you can. Enjoy!!

My brother lives in the area and they said that NASA is no big shake. Agree with the recommendation for Kemah Boardwalk. Moody complex is pretty neat, as is Galveston.

There is a campground on I-10 just east of Baytown(was a KOA, but not now) it is not very far from San Jacinto. There is acampground on south Main that is nice(for a big city campground) it is close to Reliant stadium. There is a nice campground in Spring, north of town called Rayfords Crossing.
