Hello,

I recently bought a new TV: Jeep GC 5.7L 4x4, rated to tow 7200 lbs.

I'm thinking about purchasing a new TT: the Frontier RV Hyperlite 25RK. It's 4930 dry, GVWR is 7000, box is 25' long.

I'm thinking it'll probably weigh about 6000lbs loaded, which is 83% of the towing capacity of the Jeep.

Does anyone foresee any problems with this setup?

I've been limiting my TT candidates to those under 29' and weighing less than 5200 lbs dry. I'm thinking that any TT meeting those requirements should be ok. Do you agree?

Thanks in advance,
Ed

Welcome to the Forum. I see that this is your first post.
Your thinking sounds good to me. We towed a trailer very similar to that all over the country with an 01 5.4 Expy and it did just fine. The weak link for us was the tranny.. especially in the mountains.
You should be good.

I tow an R-vision 26QBS (26ft)(4,500lbs loaded) with my Toyota 4Runner. The only issue is the wheel base of the 4Runner. It's about 110 inch wheelbase and most folks say that's a little short for a trailer that long. Not sure on the wheelbase of the GC, but I would also recommend a good sway control. I use a Reese dual cam weight distribution/sway control and have been very pleased. Good camping..

Thanks for the advice.

I think the wheelbase of the JGC is 109.5". That's one reason why I'm not considering any TT's > 29' long. I'm hoping to find one in the 24-28 foot range.

One of the interesting features of my '08 JGC is the built-in anti-sway function. It automatically detects sway and varies the braking power to individual wheels so as to conteract and dampen the sway. Hopefully I won't need to test this!

I'll be adding dual cam sway control to my existing Reese WD hitch, just to be extra safe.

We towed our 24' with our 1994 GC, but it didn't have enough guts. With the 5.7L Hemi, you should be fine with 25', as long as you get a good WD hitch. We use the Equalizer, and it was great. My issue at this size was power, not length.

Your TV tow rating of 7200 lbs is just one of the tow rating components. You will also want to be sure you are within your TV Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating (GCVWR) and Cargo Carrying Capacity (CCC).

I think you will have a fine setup with the GC and the Hyperlite.

Skinny, The anti sway function or stability control will have no positive effect on your TT (someone correct me if there is something new on the market that I am unaware of). In fact, I would disable the stability control while towing. If you were to get into a swaying condition and your tow vehicle starts to engage its brakes it could make the situation much worse. However I use to tow my wilderness 24 LZ with a 4.7l Durango. The Durango was slightly wider but the wheel base was the same and it towed like a dream.
