We spent some serious money last summer on what will become our full time home. Using it as a rec vehicle for now costs more for fuel than when we will drive 100+ miles and park it for a few weeks and not have to rush home to go to work on Monday. $8-10 gallon will get rich on running the Aqua hot.

No...

I have relatives that full time and they are getting itchy with the high costs.
I think it is a concept that has just about come and gone for the ordinary person, it does not make sense anymore. It is also not very green which is the trend nowadays for most people.

I can't answer the question because I have never bought, and do-not intend to ever buy, a NEW Class-A.

I purchased my Bounder used and intend to keep using it for the forseeable future. I can assure you that the original owner spent more money in depreciation costs than I ever will in fuel. jmho, lou

No way, would have stayed with our small gasser if we would have known that diesel would run 70 cents a gal higher than gas.

It's a loaded question for me. What I did was worst than just buying an expensive (for me) motorhome, I later build a house where I could park 2 motorhomes in the backyard.
NO, I would not buy another motorhome. The only way that we're able to stay in the game is because we have NO debt. But, I brood about the higher and higher cost of, not just diesel, but of everything. The day that I decide to quit (give the motorhome away), I will go into the business of storing 2 large motorhomes (owned by rich people). I'll also offer a make-ready-for-trip service.
Nope, I would not buy another motorhome. I'll keep the boat and just go out for one-day fishing trips.
We're already on short trips with the motorhome.
It seems to me like people do not really believe that it's going to really get bad. But, I hope they are right,....'cause we love RVing in our motorhome.

With the ever increasing cost of fuel, the uncertainty in the RV Industry and the general woes in the Economy - would anyone be seriously looking at buying a new 36'+ Class A today?

Due to jobs etc, we may be going back to a stick house soon and if so then the big Beaver will go and we will look for a B+, probably based on a Sprinter chassis.

I understand fulltimes (as we are) still need the space but for vacations etc the B+ seems to make so much more sense today.

So, is anyone out there still considering the purchase of a new Class A?

If..IF I chose to...the cost of fuel wouldnt enter into it.

Not only would I not buy NEW right now, if I could find the right buyer for my coach I would seriously considering downsizing so we can still enjoy RV'ing for years to come without all this worry about fuel prices. I say that BUT it would be hard to sell my girl......lol

With predictions (lately alot of these predictions have come true) of gas and diesel at $8-$10 gallon, there is NO WAY. Save your money and start preparing for a rough time for at least the next 5 years.

I'm starting to see some of the 'experts' on some of the financial websites talking about $200 a barrel of crude oil (referred to as Super-Spiking) within the next 6 to 24 months. That works out to about $8 a gallon for gas and about $9 a gallon for diesel.

These experts are saying that even with the US starting to consume less oil, countries like India and China are keeping the demand up. These experts are also stating that eventually prices will come down, but not until WORLD demand for oil starts decreasing. That won't happen until some type of alternate fuel source actually hits the market.

$4 a gallon is doable (although painful), but $9 a gallon would pretty much put a stop to our RVing.

Do a Google search on '200 barrel oil' and you will see some of the websites talking about this...

Doesn't look too good on the home front anytime in the near future.

Sure would. Actually did two weeks ago.

But we may be a special case. We are trying to sell a house in another town (our family had been seperated by 400 miles for 3 months) for a while, and realized that we are going to take a bath on it and have to live on the cheap for a while. For a family of 5 (and two dogs) our no slide class C didn't cut it long term.

So for a small monthly increase we are all back together.
