If you can afford to buy a Class A, fuel prices from $3.00 to $8.00 a gallon should not effect your decision. The average RVer will travel 5-7K miles per year. At 7K miles the fuel will cost you $3000 a year at 7MPG at $3 a gallon and $8000 per year at $8 a gallon. So if you can afford to spend >$150,000 on a hobby and extra $5000 a year id literally a drop by in the bucket.

Now that the 2009's are rolling in, and the economy and gas prices are causing supply to outpace demand there are deals deals deals! If you look at the cost of gas people freak out about 10 cents...if you drive 10,000 miles in a car per year and get 20 miles to the gallon *being conservative here, that's 500 gallons a year times 10 cents is $50 folks...so let's say it goes up 50 cents, that's $250...so eat out at Olive Garden 5 fewer times a year? If gas is that big a concern, then probably doesn't make sense to look at a new "anything".
The way you get ahead in life is contrarian thinking. When Joe Public thinks SELL, you buy because things are on big-time sale. When Joe Public thinks, buy buy buy, you SELL at huge gains from what you bought at when Joe Public was freaked out and selling at huge discounts (like right now). I bought my MH for way WAY under wholesale NADA. Avg Retail...a joke, tens of thousands less than that. The dealer was happy, I didn't screw them or have any kind of inside deal relationship-wise or anything, they needed to move the unit and handed me the keys below what they paid. I think I could eaisly sell it for what I bought it for in about 3-4 years. I bought new, with the new smell, new everything, new factory warranty and components warranty...for less than most folks are trying to sell similar models 3-8 years old with all their inherent problems.
Yes, absolutely buy things now, new. Now is the time.
Well, tell us what you bought and what you paid for that two year old lot queen? I hope you changed all of the fluids since it has probably been sitting on the lot since mid 2006.
YES, considered it and bought it. 2008 fleetwood (gasser) been rving/camping since 1963 not giving it up now its a very important family time away from the grind, should we stay at home and say the sky is falling , NOT !!! just stay closer to home , we better live our life now you only get one swing at it & Don't regret growing older-it is a privilege denied to many. happy camping.

Silver_Knight I hope I misread the intent of your post to ttymeg who apparently just joined the forum a couple days ago. If your intent was to demean a new member’s purchase or personally demean the new member you can do what you deem is the best corrective step.
For all to read ttymeg has informed all of us the new purchase was a “2007 Coachmen Mirada bunk floor plan 34.9ft new in 2008, Ford V10” and those who plan to use their new purchase is “Me, Dear Wife, 3 Boys and Baby Girl”.
The floor plan information would indicate to most of us why the 2007 model year was still on the lot in 2008 and why it would be selected by this family. Since we do not have the manufactured date we have no info to indicate it was on the lot any more then one year. The factory could have recently cut the dealer a deal just to get it out of inventory, etc.
Why would you state there is a need in a new unit to change all of the fluids? While I think many will agree changing engine oil after one year is a good practice regardless of miles driven it may not be a requirement but that could be determined in part by looking at the oil on the dip stick. However in all my years I have never read to change the coolant, transmission, power steering, brake fluids in a new vehicle of any type just because it has set new for a year or two on a dealers lot.
As to the purchase price that is personal information that no member should be expected to give unless they so desired.
This is a great thread, I hope people can keep it civil so it won't be "closed" by the moderator. The only way I will buy new is at a used price. With a glut of new units on most RV lots that looks like its getting closer and closer. But how about this, I see class A 500hp+ DPers not sitting around long. A local dealer in Houston was going to call me when their 09 Signature Monaco arrived, he called us we went 2 days later (last weekend) and it was sold! It was still in make ready and a guy bought it, a 700K unit. It is all relative to your finances. I agree with some RVing is not a "return" on investment. It is a big black hole that sucks out money. And I love it!!

Silver, it's a 2007 model year Mirada 350DS. While the dealer would prefer I don't blab the price all over the place, if you really truly want an idea when I say "outstanding deal way under wholesale NADA", do a search on 3-5 year old comparable entry level similar quality gasser class A's for sale by private parties that have two slides and when you get a feel for that price range, take about 15-20K off that and you'll likely be guessing close to my buy price.
Thanks for the tip on fluids, but in my PDI we went through all the fluids and they changed them and I stayed overnight in the unit at the dealers property, at their invitation, as they have hookups for new customers just for such purpose(a nice touch I thought and contrary to so many who seem to get rush job PDI's) to go through and check every detail out that I wanted. They were a class act in my opinion and treated me like I was paying full sticker on a $350K coach. So, I think the delivery was as close to if it had just hit the lot as possible as opposed to a "lot queen" as you suggested.

ttymeg,, This sounds like a dealer that I might like to do business with. Do you think the dealer would mind if you told us thier name. I am also looking for a sweet deal.... thanks
ttymeg - I have never seen a problem with letting people know the price you paid - it's not 'confidential'.
The dealer was obviously happy with the price he got for the unit or he would never have sold it to you - they might claim that they are losing money on a deal but rest assured - they aren't!
If you can help a fellow RVer get a good deal then I'm all for telling everyone and supporting my local dealer.
