We, too, never plan to purchase a NEW mh again. But, people are spending money; my dd just sold her pontoon boat and has purchased a speed boat.

We bought in 02 and at that time we made a decision that we would keep it at least 10 years. We are now 6 years in and have 75,000 miles on it. So today "NO"

We are not full timers so we still have a stick built house.

With the ever increasing cost of fuel, the uncertainty in the RV Industry and the general woes in the Economy - would anyone be seriously looking at buying a new 36'+ Class A today?

Due to jobs etc, we may be going back to a stick house soon and if so then the big Beaver will go and we will look for a B+, probably based on a Sprinter chassis.

I understand fulltimes (as we are) still need the space but for vacations etc the B+ seems to make so much more sense today.

So, is anyone out there still considering the purchase of a new Class A?

To buy a new one? No way. Our intentions changed dramatically over the past few months. Upon returning home from our trip last fall we removed everything from the moho. That was going to be our last trip in our old gal. As time past the for sale sign went on, ads were listed and shopping for a new to us unit began. Well a lttle more time passes and you start really watching our economy, the price of fuel goingup, grocery prices skyrocketing and we really had to re-evaluate our plans. Sat and talked about it and just came to the decision to keep our baby. She has 112K miles on her and still runs like a clock. Maybe a few upgrades here and there and she'll work out just fine for us for the time being and probably well into the future. I figured that it would take a minimum of $80K to upgrade and for that amount of money we can buy a quite abit of gas to get around. For now we are still planning our trip out West and keep enjoying all that we can. Hope our econonmic times improve but I believe that's a way's down the road. Happy Motoring eveyone and be SAFE!!!

I bought a new 07 this year - thinking gas would stay around 3.00 but looky looky......If gas reaches over 4.00 a gallon our country will be in a severe recession.

We are losing a war without firing a shot........and nothing to fight with.

We'd never consider buying a new Class A. Let someone else eat the depreciation and the headaches!

We couldn't afford new, so we bought used, in February. We are both still working and take one or two "big" vacations each year - only a week or two. For us to fly, rent a car, hotel, food and a house sitter for the dog, it would cost us more than the trip in the RV to the same location. So, we will still travel every few weekends this summer - but it will be within a two hour drive. Our first trip was from western NY to Lexington, KY a few weeks ago and our second "big" trip will be from western NY to Jacksonville, FL this fall.

I HAVE to use my vacations or I'd go crazy. And I don't want to stay home. I think RV vacations are cheaper than flying somewhere, based on my calculations.

I have debt and gas is too high - but life is too short to wait for things to change, IMHO. After all, life is uncertain, so eat dessert first!

No we would not buy or down size now. Our '97 Beaver is worth about 35K now, and a B+ on a Sprinter chassis is almost twice the Beavers value. For the difference in cost I can buy about 7800 gallons of diesel that will take us about 68,000 miles.

We intend to use it as much as we can this summer regardless of the cost of diesel. Diesel will probably never be as inexpensive in the future as it is now.

Is there a point where the cost does not justify the use? I guess we will just try to find alternative ways to us it that don't require as much travel.

Wow. Middle America is going away folks. Those who are going down to the poverty level will sell eveything and complain...woe is me. That's what poverty mentality does.(no disrespect meant) Those who are moving up will let their dream control their checkbooks. Just find a way to change if you really want to keep RV'ing. Think of it this way, you never make money. It's already made and in circulation. You have to figure out a way to get into a bigger stream. It will then flow through you and you can direct where it goes from there. Some for you, and a lot to others who have needs. Think on this for a bit, read some OG Mandino books, ask those who are a notch or two above you how you can get there. I only write this because I don't want to see anybody beaten down. Change please...I did...it works, it's not magic, it's wisdom. Seek after knowledge like a fine treasure, search for it as hidden gold. When you find it, you will wonder why you thought the way you did before. Your eyes will be open to new treasures in life. Come on, come on, come on....I am waiting for you, my hand is stretched out to pull you up, others are waiting to pull me up, don't give the enemy an inch in this. You are somebody, you can do it! I am beyond a Class A DP....My sights are on an airplane! (and to put things in perspective...I can't afford either right now...what's that got to do with it!)
