I am biased towards keeping RV's as small as possible so I would consider size before buying just as much as brand. 34 is pretty big. Are you sure you want that much trailer to pull around, park and fuel?

We had a rip in our rocker and a small tear in the sofa (sofa with air mattress) PDI items. They were changed out, through the door no problem. The sofa drawer came out, that helped. Also the sofas can sometimes be taken apart further if needed.

I would bet the back of the sofa lifts off as most do. That would allow you to get it through the door.

Probably for less than $3000 you could replace the kitchen chairs, sofa, chairs directly from Hitchhiker. Seems a much better way to go. My HH is a 93 and still going strong. Since some here have given the same suggestion, I suggest you split the savings with us.

We have thought of this...and the chairs could easily be removed, but we don't think we can get the sofa to fit thru the door...and then to get a new one in. Someone told us that alot of times the furniture is put in before the last slide is put on??? We have measured and measured but just don't know how we can get that to work? Anyone ever replaced their furniture, and how did it go?

Thank you all.....we appreciate any and all suggestions!

How about through a big window?

we measured the window, and that would not work. Maybe the sofa will coma apart and can be taken out the door. But then we would have to put in a sofa that would come apart also. Now, you think we may be able to purchase new furniture from Hitchiker??? It seems like the furniture in the stores are all so big.

HH is one of the better rigs out there. We couldn't find one that was the size, lay out, and weight that we wanted, that's why we went with Lady Vixen.

Do a search on Flex steel and you will find all kinds of options for RV furniture. And as someone else mentioned, look at a Lazy Boy store. They have all kinds of stuff that will fit in most larger RVs. And Lazy Boy comes apart so it fits through the door.

Personally, I would rather have a 04 Hitchhiker than a 08 Cardinal. They are just not in the same league as a Hitchhiker in my opinion.

I'd almost guarantee the back comes off your sofa. I do not believe they build trailers around the furniture. Our sofa went out the door in two pieces. Likewise we replaced the crappy recliner and pitched out the "mama's" chair. We replaced the torture-chamber sofa with a futon. The backs do come off Lazy Boys. I had one.
As for needing/wanting a new fiver, that's up to you and your pocketbook. If you plan on using it a lot, then go for it. Ours sits for about eight months of the year and then we run the wheels off it the other four. We bought an "entry-level" Dutchmen in 2004 and still love it.
Unless it's destroyed it will be our first and only fiver.
Cheers,

HitchHiker is a good 5er and NUWA is a good company, but a bit pricey. I have looked at just about every 5er manufacturer out there and there are a lot. One thing you need to check out is the manufacturer and how well they stand behind their product. On the RV forums and in the trailer life help line you see where Keystone and Forest River can be difficult to work with. I hear that Heartland is a great company and they stand behind thier trailers. My biggest issue is trying to find the difference in trailers to justify the price. Much of what the pricey companies brag about is overkill and extremely over rated. Now expect the owners to jump all over this as they must defend thier choice. The secret is shop well and do your home work, it is a very large investment.
