I have three vehicles, two gas guzzlers (van and a truck) and one high mpg small car. Guess which one of the three is Korean? When I needed a small, reliable, high mpg car, NONE of the US manufacturers had a vehicle I could use. So I went with an overseas vehicle.

Huh? You've never seen a Ford Focus? Car & Driver 10Best for several years?

Both the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic are made in the US as well, but you HAD to buy a Korean car to get to the criteria you cite? Smells like rationalizing.....

When I was an Electrical Field Engineer for General Electric I can remember one time that helps answer this question. GE had an X-ray gauge at a US Steel rolling mill that was not working correct. When I went to the mill to determine the cause of the problem US Steel put blinders on me and escorted me to the equipment room. They did not want me to see their rolling process. But on the way we passed some Japanese people with cameras taking pictures. I asked what was going on. My guide said they were here looking at the process because they were going to install a similar plant in Japan. GO FIGURE.

I'm very angry over this subject. To many USA jobs going overseas! The government is not doing this, it's corporate America doing it to itself!

Henry Ford not only designed the first automobiles, he also created the first assembly line. He was also innovative in his approach to wages. Do some research here, and you'll find out he had the philosophy that an item couldn't be so overpriced that the people who made it couldn't afford to purchase it. Unfortunately, Coorporate America seems to have forgotten this. I better shut-up, I'm getting really angry again!

It has also been mentioned the U.S. has intrusive taxes here. Along the same lines is environmental regulations manufacturing companies are forced to comply with. Being responsible isn't a bad thing but when you are competing with a country that not only doesn't frown on dumping lead and mercury into the water but encourages it because it is cheaper, there is no way American companies can compete.

I think this could be levelled out a bit with tarrifs which at one time was the sole source of income to the Feds.

The national economy may not be in a recession but on local levels I believe it to be. It is slow here compared to years past but it will even out.

The sky in economy is not failing.
It just shifted. From the production to foreclosure and repossession business.

Many of "them" are educated by "us".

Yes, and "they" go to school with the goal of actually "learning" something. Go by the library at any good sized college/university and look at the student base in there. You will see the majority are of a foreign, mostly asian, nationality. Their idea of getting together after school is in study groups.

Where are the majority of our kids after classes?.....check the closest campus party

Don't judge a book by it's cover. A lot of those Asian faces belong to Americans. Their parents came here and they still believe in the American dream...

Work hard, save and send your kids to college so they'll have a better life.

Media hype!

Trouble is too many people believe whatever they are told or whatever they hear on TV. Take a look at many of the posts on this forum alone. People actually think we are running out of oil. People actually think we are causing something they are calling "global warming". And look at the replies on my topic of "going green". What does "going green" acctualy mean anyway? EVERYONE has a different idea on what it means.

Media throws something out there and too many people eat it up. And besides the media you have the Hollywood people who many of the "common people" think can do no wrong and again, believe anything they say.

Do I really feel the sky is falling, heck no. But way too many people believe it is.

Probably true to some extend. However, while I was at UCLA, the kids I'm talking about spoke fluently in their native language and had broken English.

Either way, I couldn't agree more with your statement...."work hard, save and send your kids to college so they'll have a better life."

Just a quck note ... Lots of folks mentioning "Global Warming". Don't you know that term has fallen out of favor? "Global Warming" didn't really pan out the way they thought/hoped. It's hard to keep screaming "global warming" when the temps are actually cooling. The new term is "Climate Change". Hope this works out better for them although I have my doubts. It seems the climate changes in cycles too ... has been since dirt was invented!

AS to the media, I wouldn't be so quick to lable everything they do as detrimental to us. Many things that ARE wrong, continue to unchecked until they are brought to light by some form of media. Only then does someone stand up and take notice.

The technology to make cars that get better fuel economy or use an alternative fuel would take twice as long, or longer, to be developed if there wasn't some sort of outcry reported by the media, either hyped up or actual. Look how long the combustive engine has been around. There simply has been little incentive to develop this technology and it was easily lobbied against by big oil.

Whether or not we believe that there is some form of global warming, it and the actions in the market for oil, have led to a fairly recent explosion in the development of hybrid/flex fuel, soon alternative fuels.
