Wow! So finally some other smuck gets a piece of the pie. Good for other countries that are moving up. Good that economies in other countries are growing. Are we that selfish that we can't wish others good? Haven't we had our share and it may be time to share that with others?

Nothing is forever. No one can remain number one. World history shows us that cultures, religions and languages change. We have forgotten our past so quickly since the beginning of the industrial revolution. Things have been on the upswing ever since. Maybe it's time to give things a rest. It is okay to be middle-class and live in smaller homes, drive smaller cars, buy less things. Afterall, that doesn't make the person, the culture or the country. If it does it is a sad commentary.

I'm sure I'll get torched for this but too bad. It is what it is.

I'm very angry over this subject. To many USA jobs going overseas! The government is not doing this, it's corporate America doing it to itself!

And it's also Americans doing it to corporations. We want a lower price. We damand to pay less money. Have two stacks of American flags. One states "made in USA" and sells for $25.00, the other states "made in China" and sells for $19.95. Guess which one will outsell the other. We may be our worst enemy.

I have nothing against other countries of the world developing there own economies and competing in a free market.

But when greedy corporate America, gives away our technology and jobs to foreign interests under the disguise of "globalization", I think different.

It took our country hundreds of years to develope our industrialized society, somehow the Japanese and most recently the Chinese, developed it overnight. How did this happen?

Our government gave it to the Japanese and Chinese. Japan was rebuilt in the 40's and 50's with US government money. China was the 'poster child' of US 'empathy' in the 90's. They got trade controls reduced, transfer of technology, and cash, mostly at the hands of politicians who wanted to be viewed as 'compassionate' and 'worldly'.

Many companies are taking advantage of the cheap manpower market. Even a small 5 person company I know sends material to China for manufacturing. Cheaper than hiring US workers to do the same job. And, there is a huge group of folks in China who are as 'greedy' as US companies in getting work. Our little shop has been approached several times by Chinese mfg's who want to 'help' us expand. Someday I may take them up on their offer.

Don't forget us as a people. Made in Japan used to be a slur against a product, bad fit of parts, fell apart, didn't work, etc. The Japanese mfg's got their stuff together and bypassed a stagnant US mfg sector. Then that 'industrialized' society found they had to actually increase their quality to compete. Made in China still means a bit less quality, but, again, they are doing better. We are the ones driving that. Not the mfg's. If you buy a product made in China (or Japan or anywhere else) YOU are the one supporting the export of jobs overseas. YOU are the greedy one and the mfg's around the world are supporting YOU.

Remember that every time you got/get a wage increase it means a product/service price goes up. Meaning that someone will buy a foreign product/service instead of the one you help produce.

I am usually optimistic but this time I believe we are headed for an extremely deep recession. Possibly on the cusp of depression.
All the forces are coming together......

Greed

Oil prices

Manufacturing costs

Farming costs

Shipping costs

Utility costs for the above and retailers

Foreclosures

Gee I could go on......

Do you buy "foreign" autos, trucks and appliances because your neighbors(and yourself)cannot make quality products?
I have three vehicles, two gas guzzlers (van and a truck) and one high mpg small car. Guess which one of the three is Korean? When I needed a small, reliable, high mpg car, NONE of the US manufacturers had a vehicle I could use. So I went with an overseas vehicle.

No, I buy the best product at the best price point I can find. Sadly, that often means NOT made in the USA. I am not going subsidize US manufacturers. They should compete for my dollar just like everyone else.

Here's ONE indicator of what's going on:
The price for a rear axle shaft, for a 1996 S-10 Blazer, is $415, at the Chev dealer.
An importer company in Los Angeles is distributing a copy of this axle, made in India, and it retails locally for $98.

For those that are bemoaning India and China taking our jobs:

You sound just like all those that were convinced Germany and Japan were going to own us. Were are Germany and Japan today?

Here is an interesting graph:

Notice who's losing - The EU and Japan are the ones losing to China and India, not us.

Also - this is a chart on purchasing power parity. This will look even worse on an exchange basis.
