I am looking towards new tires for the TV and I came across a great deal on some retreaded tires, so would you run the retreads? The guy warranties them to 2/32. But that really doesn't matter in the middle of a trip and you get a "detread"!

If you can't afford new tires, you can't afford to be RVing (dollar-wise as well as safety-wise).

Depends on who is doing the capping. Bandag caps are almost as good as new and have nearly the same warranty. And the restriction on "no caps on front axle" pertains to commercial (DOT regulated) units only. Otherwise you can put rubber bands on if you want.

Unless you drive a commercial vehicle, this is not true!

I've run retreads in the past, I have yet to have one aligator on me. I have had the case blow up on me more than once! This had NOTHING to do with the retread part of the equation!

Retreads can run on the front of a commercial rig too, as long as you do not cross state lines, nor can one run them on school bus's or equal, well, at least that is a the general rules here in Wa st, your state or provence may be different.

Some manufactures such as Good Year, if you use there retread facility, warrent the tire for 7 yrs and a million miles! Not bad if one asks me. Then again, the only folks that will achieve that result, are truckers that drive 100K miles a yr! I seem to recall Bridgestone and Michelin having something similar with there steel based cases too.

My issue has been the tread seperates in the main case on the retread part. I have yet to have an issue with the retread itself coming off! For some folks, they make perfect sense, others, not it does not, nor will it ever make "cents" that way either.

Hmm I guess I missed the must be wealthy/elitist slant before now. I assumed that this was a group of individuals from all walks of life and all social and economic status. The original post stated nothing about ability to afford new tires the question was merely if other members would run retreads or not. Please leave your assumptions as to members financial status or any other assumptions alone and answer the very reasonable question of if you would run retreads, that was after all the question.

Those that have answered, thanks I love the fact that we have individuals that have had experiences with retreads both good and bad. It is always nice to hear what you guys have to say.
