I've got a 23' Rockwood and a Tahoe, with a Yammy EF2400i. The genny goes in the trailer until we set-up camp. Where would you carry a 1 or 2 gallon Blitz gas can? I'm leaning toward the outside storage compartment of the trailer.

Thanks...

Back of truck or on a rack on the back of the trailer. Not in a compartment in the trailer unless it is well ventilated (and I probably would not do it then either). Would not put the genset inside the trailer either. The gas is vented to outside and any heating of the interior means fumes will get in trailer.

I carry my gas in the gas tank of the Jeep. When gas is need, I siphon out a gallon at a time. Now, I do get strange looks when doing this.

I used to have a 1981 Datsun pickup truck. I would disconnect the rubber fuel line at the filter, point it towards a can and turn on the electric fuel pump.

These days that might not be agood idea. I have heard that the pressure is a lot higher with enjectors that back in the days of carbs.

For a small quantity I just use the gas bottles that I use when I go backpacking. They are air tight. Something like this

On rear bumper of trailer or on tongue of trailer.

Our gas, in 5-gallon plastic cans, rides in the bed of the PU by the tailgate, secured with a rope and bungee chords to keep them from sliding around: 5 gal, regular for the genney, which we sometimes run while under tow to keep the trailer cool, and 5 gals of diesel in case we miscalculate and find ourselves a long way between stations in remote areas. (It ain't happened yet that we needed it, but it's about piece of mind)!
Cheers

He's got a a Tahoe not a truck.
I siphon mine from the tank. I use a 3/8' dia clear plastic hose about 6' long. Nice loop to the ground out of the tank and you can see the gas coming.
Keep the end of the hose above the filler and the gas stops at the same level as in the tank. Stick it in the can and lower it to the ground. When your done or want to fill another can, just lift the full one above the filler neck and slowly remove the hose. You should see the gas drop back the the tank level. Stick the hose in a empty can and lower it again or if your finished lift the hose to let gas drain back into the tank and then remove the hose.
I've been doing this for years and not one drop if gas has made it to my mouth. my clear plastic has yellowed over time but you can still see the gas inside.

Thanks, ya'll got me thinking now. I can drain the genny so it's empty while we drive. Looking at putting a 5-gallon metal Blitz can on the rear bumper of the trailer, which would give me plenty of juice for the genny, and the "peace of mind" factor for the tow vehicle. However, the 3/8" hose from he gas tank is pretty darn good too :-)

I bought a special safety certified gas can to carry two gallons of fuel for my small Honda genny and carry the can in the only outside compartment in my Class C that meets these conditions:

- the compartment is all steel lined
- the compartment is not open at all to the interior
- the compartment is not near the furnace outside vent
- the compartment is not near the water heater outside vent

The safety certified gas can was not inexpensive .. about $70 for the two gallon size, but I figured that safety has no price.

I carry the Honda in the only outside compartment large enough for it, but this compartment is not steel lined. I figure/hope/assume that Honda has designed into it a very safe steel gas tank and also, I've never smelled gas around the Honda after filling it's tank or when running it.

Rear bumper of my trailer.

Frankly, I'm amazed it hasn't been stolen yet. Two gallons of gas is worth the risk of going to jail for a lot of people these days.
