I, personally, prefer the gallon containers. They are lighter and easier to pour than the bulkier 2.5 and 5 gallon containers.
Same thing I noticed last week here. It was about 8 cents more per gallon to buy in larger quantity. So much for bulk discounts and I prefer the gallon container in place of pouring from a 5 gallon container any way.

Bulk is considered 55 gallon drums to tankers with 1000's of gallons.
Case goods are quarts, gallons and 5 gallons.

By "bulk", I think Arcamper (and I) meant that buying larger quantities usually gets you a cheaper price. Buying 2.5 gallon container is usually slightly cheaper (per gallon) than buying a one gallon container. A 5 gallon container is usually cheaper yet. The reasoning is that buying a larger (bulk) quantity saves on packaging.
My point was that's not true at Walmart.
By the way, I have never heard of 5 gallon pails coming as "case goods", since they usually aren't shipped in boxes, but shrink wrapped on pallets.

Hey Curt,
Thanks for your input.
If you look back at my 5 gallons..........You will see that I made no note of pails. I also agree with you, I have never seen 5 gallon PAILS in cases. When we get 5 gallon pails in, they are shrink wrap 42 pails (which I call 5 gallon buckets) per pallet.
Perhaps I need to word it like this.
Bulk starts with a 55 gallon drum. (4 per pallet) about 2,000lbs.
Up until this year you could buy 6 gallons (36 cases per pallet) in case goods. Now it is 3 Gallons (72 cases per pallet). I liked it better when it was 6 gallons per case..better for our customers.
You are correct on the smallest to the largest as price goes.
Many times smaller case goods are used as lost leaders to get you to buy, in hopes that you might buy other products.

Lab tests show Walmart Supertech oil is much better than Rotella, but don't tell anyone ,the price will just go up. On the same test, it showed
Rotella syn. beating out all of the other oils tested. The only problem you'll find with the wally 15-40oil is that it is a CI, not for the new CJ engines, that's why it's better.

I've been using Rotella Synthetic in my last two trucks. The only thing I worry about is that it's 5W-40 instead of the 15W-40 that Ford (actually International) recommends.
What is everyone's feeling on using the wrong weight oil? I like the idea of a little thinner oil in subzero temperatures in our long winters!
