We like to watch our TV at night when a generator can't be used. We now use an AC/DC TV which is fine. However, when the rules change for digital reception, I'll have to get a 110V TV. It will be a 19" LCD HD TV. My question is do modified sine wave inverters work without putting interference lines on the screen. Or, do you have to use a pure sine inverter? I'll only use it for TV and possibly a converter box if nec.. I was thinking about a 600 to 1000 watt iniverter. Also, what is a good brand? Your thoughts will be appreciated......phil

I have 3 LCD TV's, 2 satalite boxes, 2 digital converter boxes and 2 portable pc's that work just fine with a modified sine wave inverter. The microwave takes longer then normal to heat things and fans make a growling noise when running.

I have a old color AC/DC tv I plug into the 12 volt recept and use a vector modified sine hooked to the battery to convert the 12 volt to 110 to operate the converter box and the tv signal amplifier. Works good with no lines. Unless you really want a new tv, You can still use the old one when digital comes in. If you get a new HDTV you won't need the digital to Anolog converter.

Everything on my rig, including the LCD TV works fine on my modified square wave inverter. The only issue I notice is that the GFCI in the bthroom buzzes/hums slightly when on the inverter.
However, there are some devices out there that don't like MSW, so while your odds are good that you won't have any issues, there are no guarantees. I've heard of issues with electonics that have cheap power supplies, like electric blankets and coffee pots with built-in clock/timers.
I'd give it a try, as long as you can return the TV or inverter for a different unit, on the off chance that there are issues.

Nothing will put interference lines on a digital TV..However some folks have complained that when operating a digital set off a MSW inverter they loose all signal.
As is always the case with MSW inverters and television/radio gear. YOUR MILLAGE MAY VARY. Some may work, some may not, Some may work with Some televisions, but not others..

I prefer to put the proper fuel in the tank, proper oil in the crankcase and supply the proper sine wave power to my electric items. I have used a square wave inverter and most items run hot so I would not buy another MSW.

Harbor Freight has a 400 watt true sine inverter on sale for about $30. That's pretty cheap for a true sine inverter and I don't know how good it is.

If you're talking about this one (it's the only 400-watt inverter I saw on Harbor Freight's website and it sells for $29.99), it is a modified sinewave inverter, not a true sinewave inverter.
