Camping, never! Camping as we've been doing it last 2 years, now! We are selling our TT and Excursion even if we take a hit. Between steadily rising fuel, license, insurance it's just not worth it to us to have a big tow vehicle waiting in the driveway for the next trip. We are comfortable trading the convenience of luxury for the convenience of simplicity. Bottom line, I refuse to contribute to the obscene profits of big oil while at the same time not seeing Detroit do much to raise fuel efficiency. Some people plant victory gardens, you will see me in my victory tent or teardrop. Good luck to you all. See you at the campground!

Well sir, you're from New York-- might I suggest you contact your state Senators-- Sir Hillary and Chuckles Schumer-- they seem to be dialed into the needs of the working man. I'm sure they'd be the first to propose drilling in Anwar and in the Gulf of Mexico and off Kalifornia.

Ah, more pearls of wisdom from the "No War for Oil" crowd. Yes, you are right-- they are "oil peple". Insight at its best.
The democrats have been in control of both the House and Senate for the last two years. Aside from Nancy "Cript Keeper" Pelosi meeting with Syrian dictators and Harry Reids incesant whining (love the one about the war being "lost"), just what have they done?
Well, granted, they did rename a few post offices...
$133.84 a barrel today. Amazing how fast it's rising. While pointing the finger at Democrats for not drilling ANWR, keep in mind John McCain is also against drilling ANWR. I'm not convinced big oil is wanting to drill ANWR. Why go to the expense of drilling when you can make record profits simply buying crude from foreign producers.
I think it's more sticker shock than anything. Traffic is still thick and people are still driving like it a race everywhere they go.
We're making plans for a 930 mile trip in the next couple of weeks. At $4 a gallon for mid-grade, it's getting scary but still not prohibitive. And I'm at the bottom of the payroll with my hourly wage mechanic's job. Those above me shouldn't be feeling any pain at all.

I'm in the same boat, except we're looking at 7000 miles. I was doing the math again today with revised numbers and I figure we might blow our budget by $600 to $800 assuming the current runaway prices continue. Sadly enough I did the "new" math at $1.65 per litre for diesel, which is $6.25/Gallon on the US side.
I'd like to think that those prices were "worse case scenario", but I'm really starting to wonder now.
Given that the budget started out at $3000 to begin with, that's a significant overage. Not enough to stop us, but enough that it's starting to get on my nerves.
Leaving June 6th to drive from NY to Branson. Just upped our gas budget to $1k just to be on the safe side. This will probably be the last 1200 mile trip since I plan to move from NY to KS in about a year. Will it stop us from buying a trailer and going camping? Nope since this will save us more money then having to get hotels. Although watching the price I pay to put 14 gal in my Expy go up about $2 everytime I fill up is getting annoying. I may just start getting gas when I get to 3/4 instead of half just so I dont go bug eyed when I stop pumping and look at the total.

When can I get my trailer?
I guess I am lucky, no change of plans what so ever. I have a six mile round trip commute to work drive a car that gets 26 miles per gallon. We like being home when not working so we don't run around alot. My TV a 7.3 Ford diesel Superduty sits in the garage waiting to pull the 5ver on our annual trips to Montana or where ever.I estimate another 500-600 dollars extra this summer for fuel, hardly going to break the bank.We are near retirement, will have to look at things a little different when retired and on fixed incomes. Hopefully things will stablize.
With Goldman Sachs and Boone Pickett both saying that oil will hit $150, then it will. Doesn't matter if it's justified or not, because they said it, it's gonna happen no matter what.
