As mentioned the RV industry is just one pawn.
Look at car dealer lots, and not just American cars either.
The dealers can't give away Suburban's, well maybe, but what of what John speaks is product wide, nationwide, order online, seems like the next day it's here, and as mentioned, if cost has not effected your business or lifestyle, you are truly blessed

The RV industry is only the beginning, the rising fuel costs and declining economy is effecting a lot more then RVs. I have laid off 2 employees and 5 friends in unrelated jobs are out of work this month alone. If you are lucky enough not to be effected, you are very fortunate.
There is no declining economy, none of the recent monthly reports back up your statement. Not unemployment, not GDP, not inflation, not interest rates, not one. Anyone affected needs to change, adjust, or get a new job, because the economy even at a slower growth rate, has been chugging along just fine. It ain't going backwards because of RVs or gas prices.
Any RV dealer and manufacturers that need to adjust their labor force, and inventories on hand, will do so. Those leveraged badly, which would be a sizable number, may need to close their doors. As many already have. The free market is a wonderful thing, it always shakes the deadwood out.
A friend reminded me of a conversation we had a couple years ago when gas was getting close to $3.00. At that time I told him, " One of these days you will see where we will have to pay $5.00 for a gallon of gas, $5.00 for a loaf of bread, & $5.00 for a gallon of milk. Little did I know at that time that it would happen in my lifetime.
Wow, this may the first time I have agreed with Skid Row Joe! I am an RV dealer and our new RV sales (including motorhomes) are UP throught the first 4 months of the year and last year was our best year ever. Of course RV sales nationwide will be down and some dealers and manufacturers will not make it through, but a little cleansing in any industry is normal and not always bad. I agree, the free market is a wonderful thing and it does from time to time shake the deadwood out as Joe says. Even with the new RV sales that are predicted for 2008, it is a strong overall RV market. Some areas are suffering more than others and will impacted more, but the RV industry has been in about a 10 year growth cycle and that can't go on forever just as the stock market has ups and downs. Expect to see some more dealers and manufacturers fail, but the strong ones will be here and industry will go on.

I don't know where you live, but it hasn't happened where I live in the United States:
Gas is well below $4.00 a gallon at any station where I live..
Milk is $3.00 a gallon on sale at Kroger.
and
Bread is .50 cents a loaf on sale at Albertson's.

Skid Row Joe, Seems like your goal is to try to poke a hole in every thing someone else posts. I said It looks like it may happen in my lifetime. I am not dead yet, and if gas is getting close to $4.00 now, and milk is $3.00 now, it is not hard to believe that it could get to $5.00. And as far as the bread, we don't buy day old bread. Some have stated that oil could get to $200.00 a barrell. Why don't you correct thier post and let them know that oil is only $119.00 a barrell?
Most day old bread is over 50 cents. A loaf of decent bread is more like $3.50, Gas here in Yuma, today is $3.59
in southern Cal $4.00 is not uncommon. Water is almost $1.00/gallon at Walmart, a gallon of cheap wine is just a little less than a gallon of Diesel.
Vegetable oils in the food section are getting to look like a possible alternative to Bio Diesel, but when that happens the road tax police will stop that.
Skid row joe has a different outlook than me, I bet we see $5. Diesel in less than two years.Maybe a lot less.
