What are the restrictions for taking fresh produce or meats across the border? Are frozen products OK?

It will depend on the day and the agent you get when crossing, if he/she is having a bad day then you will have to dump them frozen or not, even some pet foods. Best bet or advice that I can see is eat it all the last night before crossing, don't press your luck, purchase fresh when you hit the first shopping centre over the border. This applies going both Nth or Sth into or out of Canada.

This topic has been discussed over and over on this forum. Do a forum search at the top of this page and you will get more conflicting info then you can use. Do a Google search for Canada border crossing to get current info from the proper authority on this subject.

No problem going into Canada but not permitted going into the US (as of 2 weeks ago when I asked while crossing at Champlain, NY).

Sigh! They are always so much more lenient with the returning Canucks, but not always.

& Hey!!! Insects and bacteria are just as apt to attach themselves to products in southern places, maybe more so because of the heat, than in Canuck places.

When you see a url with "gc.ca" that stands for 'government of canada.

Check things like fresh fruit, vegetables, labeling and processing for packaged meats, etc. Root crops are more apt to have problems than say, peas in their pods. Apples and bananas are two of the most likely to have 'passengers'. I find it hard to think that Canada Customs/Canadian Border Services Agency have regulations that are any less scientific than any other country.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

You can't bring fruits or vegetables into California. There are already too many living here.

When I went to through the border of US-Canada to Alaska they were concerned about drugs and firearms.
I don't think you'll get in trouble for bringing meats and produce for consumption. They actually want you to bring certain amount of money and food to go through the AL-CAN Hi Way.
Have a nice trip & load up at WhiteHorse.
