Hi All,

We are planning to RV from Dallas to Florida for the Saturday, May 31, Shuttle Launch at 5:02 PM.

We travel in a 22' Class C and tow a Miata.

My thought is rather than to get into the pre & post launch traffic congestion of the Titusville area, we'd go down the west coast and stop at a park in Tampa/St. Pete.

We'd then drive the 2 hours east to Titusville in the Miata, view the launch, and drive back to Tampa/St. Pete.

After continuing south to the Keys, we'd drive up the east coast and stop at the Kennedy Space Center a week after after the launch visitors have cleared out.

Is that a good plan or is the Titusville launch traffic and mess not that bad and we should go straight there for the launch ?

Your thoughts ?

Your whole trip sounds great. We have tried (jinxed) to watch 2 launches. We were at Port Canaveral once and Jetty Park the second. We pulled off the side of the road accross from the cruise ships, set up camp for a few hours and relaxed. When the time came to leave, there was a lot of traffic, but we were on the freeway within an hour. The temperature and humidity were both high, we turned on the generator and the A/C and sat and relaxed. Well worth taking the MH to the launch.

Don't forget there are also west coast space launches - not the shuttle

I went to 2 launch's this winter one day, one at night. Both were well worth the trip. We took MH and toad, right to the visitor center, and parked there. We went in early before traffic and after the launch, went back to the MH for food and a nap. Drove out with no problem because everyone had gone.

Your plan sounds great! We were there for a Saturday afternoon launch and the traffic was horrible.. Took us 3 hours to get from Cocoa Beach to Orlando.. JUST PLAIN MISERABLE! I vowed that we would just get a room in the area next time..
