I bought an awning air wedge. Does a great job. Try this link:

Thanks for all of the replies. The most negative things seem to be that it'll no longer shed water. But that's OK. I don't figure they're to shed water anyway. They're an option aren't they? I thought they were mostly for shade and debris. Leaves might clog it, but I think the water would drible thru.

Tell you what, I'll try it and let you know how it works out. I had to take the topper off of the bedroom slide to have it restitched. I'll take it back to the awning repair guy to have a hole stitched into the middle of it.
Maybe he'll have some reason why to not do it. He repairs lots of awnings.

Thanks again for your comments.

Hummm...an awning designed to keep water off of the slide roof that drains that water ONTO the slide roof. I'm AMAZED they haven't thought of that since they had no problem inventing the trash compactor (takes 200 lb. of trash and turns it into 200 lb. of trash)

For shame! I'm including you lv2rom)!! You guys are really BAD. Next you will be ridiculing the guy that wants to use a 200 ft. 1/2" garden hose to drain his black tank so he doesn't have to drive down to the dump station. Good ideas are hard to come by! LOL

Just the push of a button will empty it off and open it back up.

After a rain, I used to get up on top and sweep the water off the slideout toppers. At the Georgia Rally, I bought "Awning ants", to keep the water off. It works.

Look at some of our older TTs/5ers/TCs with the old flat roof (no contoured truss ribs). My 1st 5er was a '81 model 26' long with a flat roof. Just about all flat roofs would sag with time which created 2" deep by 20+ foot long wading pool. Any hole in a roof is a place where water may come in over time.

Problem with putting anything (Noodles, beachball) under the slide topper is if you forget it's there and close your slide.

Some people place a piece of firewood on the top of it, to weight it down form a drain trough. Then when you close the slide, it just drops off on the ground, it you forget its up there.

Those awnings are not for water, but are for debris and shade.

If you bother to ever read the directions or paperwork on them..........

I'm not sure I totally agree with that.... Mine owner's manual says it is to keep off the "elements" and what "mother nature" has to offer, both of which would include RAIN.... It also talks about keeping mold and mildew from from forming.

IMHO I think you are totally defeating the purpose of a topper if you cut a whole in it. Do you really want water (with a little dirt, mold, leaves and whatever else) on top of your slide when you bring it in, only to have it roll off on the carpet after the first corner?

Just a thought....
