Our new Jayco 30.5 RLS fifth wheel is coming with a factory installed 20ft care-free power awning. Does anyone have this type of awning and what do you think of this?...worth the $$?...is this type of awning new to the market?

From reading all of the post online and what's in Trailer Life and other mags., all I can say is you will just have to see for your self. Some like it very much while others do not. As for me; I like to hang lights from the awining. I watched someone standing on a table putting lights on his power awining a few weeks ago. At my age, standing on a table is something that is not an option for me.

Is this the Super Lite unit you are getting? We just got that unit in March and have camped one night in it so far, and really like the fifth wheel. We had to go to a lighter unit, and this fit the bill. We like the power awning so far. We rolled it in when we went to bed in case a wind came up overnight. My husband is overjoyed with the ease of the push button operation. That is probably because he had a women tell him he had not done the awning correctly back when we had a manual operation unit.

We have one on our Jayco Designer and love it. We don't leave the awning out in windy weather and it is very easy to extend/retract. Haven't tried to hang lights on it, we just went full time and will wait for Christmas to do lights. In a place with no snow.

I like our power awning it's the second trailer we've owned with power awnings.And I still tie it down with lights on it and leave it out as long as the weather does not get extreme.We also hang lights off ours with no problems,but then I carry a ladder.It also is steep enough for the water to run off.And sometimes I don't set it up for long term just push the button and out it goes and then push the button and in it comes.You'll have to find out for yourself as to whether you'll like it or not.

I had a real damping experience with our new Montana and the automatic awning. I was concerned about some water collecting on it, so as I stood there with the door open watching this really cool awning retract thinking how proud I was of the auto push button..... down came the water, free shower.
Conclusion of the whole matter: If it maybe wet, close the door and watch through a window.
Of if unwanted guests arrive...

We have it on our new Jayco 2008 and we love it. I wasn't sure at first. But I do like not having to unlock, pull the roll down strap, etc....and then reverse it if you want to put it away because of foul weather. But to each their own. Also we do hang lights on our with no problems.

We have one also on our Designer and love it. If you extend it all the way it will have a little slack in it so just retract it a quarter turn or so and it will tighten up and not hold water. Remember it is NOT automatic. We retract it when we leave or think the weather is going to be bad. I hang lights and a sunshade from it but you have to use a ladder to do it.

we too have an 08 super light...we weren't sure at first.
They do have the pluses and minuses.
Plus, total easy to put in a put out.
Minus, not as strudy in light to moderate breazes....but we found a work around.
We use a black elastic strap and hook it up over the strut to the bottom of the last bracket. This takes most of the slack out of the awning and makes it tighter and yes still works well with the wind.
Another minus, our could have been raised about 1 inch higher as our door will touch it in a certain spot so we have to put the awning in the right spot.
They do work well and we love the ease of use. Like anything with camping, you'll find a way to make it work for you..

Yes this is the Jayco Eagle Super Light 30.5 fifth wheel....thanks for the info it helps ease the mind since we are not able to pick it up from the dealer until 5/20/08...
