Being a newbie, what does the Calgon water softener do for the Black tank. Should I be using it, too.

All of us are gifted. Some of us take longer to open our packages.

The Calgon is used in the Geo Method of cleaning tanks.

Does anyone know what store may carry the Calgon water softener needed for the black tank? I have tried Walmart, Lowes, and Acme to no avail (or maybe I am just blind). I figured I would just come here and ask the experts..thanks!

Got it at KMart. They don't always have it, but was there last time I checked, so I bought a bunch. Shelf life is long...especially for what I plan to use if for...GEO method.

Well, that's a good question.

I don't use anything in my black tank except sufficient water. It only stinks if the stuff has been in there for over a week and it's really hot and not windy. Perhaps over time we will know if the people like me who use nothing are making a mistake because our black tanks will become hopelessly caked with crud, clogged and dirty and unuseable. I have a black tank flush connection I use a couple times a year.. I'm pretty sure that helps.

Everyone has his or her own idea of cleanliness - in fact there are some on here who won't even go number two in their own toilets. I guess they don't need the GEO method. And then there's others who worry about how clean their blue tote tanks are.

Suit yourself is what I'm saying, but Calgon water softener is not cheap stuff.

Cape May's municipal water is soft, so retailers do not generally carry it. I found a box of calgon powder at the ACE on Bayshore Road - next to 'Clippers' (that pink building), but that's been a few years ago.
