Hello All,
We will be going thru Atlanta on are way to Orlando at the end of June. Have made this trip plenty before but never on Friday. Usually we go thru on Thursday after about 7:30pm. This time it will be on a Friday between about 3:00 to 4:30pm. Is rush hour traffic bad enough to avoid Atlanta all together or should we try to get an early start to get thru Atlanta before rush hour starts.

Thanks

Nascarcruzin

Just be prepared to be stalled in traffic because of accidents, road work, etc.

Good luck!

We're 30 miles from ATL and if you can, try to get through by 3 pm. It really starts to load up around 3:30.

I believe if it were myself and knowing what ATL traffic is like on a Friday, let alone Friday PM, I'd opt for the 40 miles further and use the following:

I-75 to Knoxville, I-40 over to I-26 thru Columbia, SC down to I-95.
I-95 to I-4 over to Orlando.

ATL traffic is almost the same as DFW traffic, especially on Friday's.
It never really slows down a lot like Mon thru Thurs. But anything after 3PM and about 7:30PM is going to be a bear, especially if it's raining.

Hi from Atlanta... Friday rush hour usually starts about 2 pm. HOV lane helps a little, but the earlier the better. Good luck to you and the seemingly millions coming thru Atlanta to get to Disney. regards, Craig

Knoxville has shut down completely a section of I-40 for road work, need to bypass on 640. This route @ this time is carrying 30,000 additional vehicles daily. No serious problems yet. One wreck can shut it all down.

Plan, plan, plan ahead.

Agree that the earlier you can get through Atlanta the better, especially on Friday. Get through by 3:30 if you can. If you don't get through by 3:30, there will likely be another slow down south of Atlanta, around exit 231 and will stay clogged past exit 224, especially on Friday.

I'd leave earlier and try and clear Atlanta by 3:30PM (meaning you want to be on the northside around 2:00-2:30 or so). I'd also go straight through and don't take 285. Just get in the HOV lanes (once inside 285) and go.

Do the HOV lanes in ATL allow for towed trailers. Trailers etc, are not allowed in the DFW area. They didn't indicate whether they are towing or not.
