Then I will slow down to the minimum afterwards.

Now, there's a scary post.

If the mininum is 45 whats wrong with going 45? Ambulance or leo pull to the side.

You have never caused an accident that you know of. I am guessing that there have been some that you may not "have seen" but that they took place and you may have continued on without knowing what has happened behind you. I am sure that there is someone on this forum that can come up with statistics on this type of situation and how often that actually happens.

I hope that your comments here are just to add a little flavor to the topic and that you do not really believe that it is okay to act this way. If you really cannot hear if someone is blowing their horn at you that is also an issue. Please be considerate of others around you. As "adults" we should lead by example of good behavior and attitude. If you are really 82 then the era that you were raised in, I tend to believe, would dictate better behavior and attitude than what you claim to display. What a disappointment.

As to the topic of the thread. I agree with the OP. We all need to watch what is happening around us (including backing up traffic behind us). If we cause a traffic back up, be considerate when it is safe pull over and let the others go by. Common courtesy on the road!

I will now step down from my soapbox. Have a good day.

Lots of good perspective here guys, and I like the hijack attempt.

For the record - I was not late to anything, I am not a geezer, I do own an RV, and I'm sorry to hear I'm not a good RV'er.

I realized long ago that I (and I assume others) will drive to whatever information rate their brain is comfortable with. So for example, I always speed on the highway and back roads, but NEVER in areas where line of sight is compromised. But when tired, or at night I'll naturally slow down. I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere, that's where I'm comfortable - probably why I used to drive race cars.

Once in high school (on this same road, only 1 1/2 hours west) I had a 15 minute drive take over an hour! It was an absolute torture averaging 10mph. The very old guy pulled into the restaurant where I worked to let the cars by. You should have heard the honking. The line of backed up traffic went forever. I never said a word to the guy, but my boss knew I needed to let off a little steam before punching in.

I WILL tell you where you're being slow WILL kill other people - merging onto a highway. If you freely acknowledge that you regularly go 20 under the posted limit, then how slow were you on the ramp?

My parents aren't geri yet, but I did tell them to take the keys from my grandparents! Sometimes reality doesn't have a smiley face.

As a side note to all you class A types. I shared this story with the guy at our truck repair shop. I can't quote what he said directly, but he said there is a certain "air of superiority" that many diesel class A owners have. That is why they refuse to work on them.

Since when is 15 and even down to 5 MPH the minimum speed limit?!?

Two words: COMMON COURTESY.

Too many people focus on a patch of pavement about 40 feet ahead, never check mirrors, never look around, and drive half the speed limit. Those are the people who have ‘’never had an accident’’ yet generally leave a trail of accidents behind them. Remember the Mr. Magoo cartoon? How many accidents did HE ever have?

I hate collecting a ‘’parade’’ behind me, and always look for a place to pull off and let cars by. I’ve been stuck behind them enough times myself. And it’s NOT being safe. Why? Other drivers get fed up with it, and as mentioned, have jobs, appointments etc. and start passing in unsafe places to get around the idiot. It’s worse when the slowpoke passes up turnout, because that inflames the held up drivers even more.

And the comment ‘’leave earlier’’ so you can get there on time. Why, because you might end up behind some dim-bulb doing 5 MPH in a 45 MPH zone? How much earlier should you leave?!?

I got stuck once on highway 12 in Washington… between I-5 and Packwood. I came upon an old man in a 5’er going 25 to 30 MPH on the highway. (55 MPH limit) He passed numerous slow vehicle turnouts. Hwy 12 is too steep, winding, and narrow to pass, especially me in the 30,000 lb. coach. We all (the 35 or more stacked up cars behind me) followed ‘’Mr. Considerate’’ for 20+ miles. After one hothead passed on a blind curve, only to cut in front of me before having a head on crash, I pulled into the next turnout and let the parade pass. I didn’t want them thinking it was ME driving 50% speeds. That’s where we found out it was more than 35 vehicles because we counted them as we sat there in the turnout waiting to get back on the road.

The rolling roadblock was ended only when he got to his destination at a resort by Rimrock lake. I heard cars honking and people screaming obscenities as they drove by his still turning off into the parking lot RV. I could hear only the last of the cars, but I’m sure everyone honked and yelled from #1 on back. He was totally oblivious to them.

45mph seams to get your attention, I noticed that when I back into a campsite @ 45mph, throw the cooler out the door & land on the picnic table, the eyebrows go up.

When I see a post like this, I just consider the mentality of the author, and feel sorry for him rather than get angry.

Responding in kind is rather stupid, too, it put's you on their level.

No matter how bad it gets out there, I feel this forum has no place for the above. I thought this forum was for the exchange of information and to assist others in their quest for answers.
