This afternoon my wife and I begin our drive across the country with our 2008 Fleetwood E-4. Uncle Sam has asked me very nicely (ordered) me to go to Monterey, CA for a graduate education.
We moved out of our house last week end have been preparing for this journey. We will begin by visiting family in Baltimore, MD and then hop onto I-70 on Sunday to begin the trek West.

Our stops are:
Huntington, WV
Tipsaw, IN
Columbia, MO
Colby, KS
Golden, CO
Provo, UT
Lovelock, NV
and finally in Marina, CA

That is roughly 400 miles per day. We will have our Harley on the front deck of the trailer and our F-150 packed to the roof of the cap. We are looking forward to this adventure.

If anyone has any recommendations about a trip like this, they would greatly appreciated.

You might want to PM me if you want some details about Naval Postgraduate School....we are living the dream.

Here is the route I took coming here from Ft Bragg, NC. We took 30 days of leave enroute and COMPLETELY loved the trip.

by the way you might want to stay at the NPS FAMCAMP, Monterey Pines RV Park. It is a great place, 3/4 mile from the school, cheapest place by far (way cheaper than Marina Dunes) and best of all--you (as an active duty member) will have priority for staying here. Again, if you need anything, PM me.

JCH, Have fun on your trip, watch out for the crazy drivers or the very slow ones on the mountain roads and remember to take lots of pictures.

Take care.

It sounds like you are in a hurry to get there, so there is much you must skip especially in Colorado and the Southwest. Perhaps what is more important is places you can go nearby on weekends once you do get to Monterey...

All,

We are in Colby Kansas. It has been a VERY VERY rainy trip so far. In WV, there were roads washed out and we had to cross a small landslide to get to our campground. Kentucky was beautiful, I am a fan of bourbon, so we had a small side trip to Buffalo Trace Distillery. Stayed in Indiana, ok campground. Arrow Rock Missouri was a nice historic town, and the camphost was extremely nice. Stopped in St Louis that day, saw the arch for the first time. Mississippi River was flooded up to just inches away from the Arch's RV parking lot. Kansas is a long state, a very long state. Not much in Colby, the ritualistic stop at Walmart was our highlight.

Onto Colorado today.

I will have a ton of pictures posted up in a couple of days when we are settled into Marina, CA.

The F-150 is towing the E4, but it is a load on it. The 4.56 gears made a big difference, but its just past the 75% rule I like to follow concerning tow capability. A diesel 3/4 ton or 1 ton will be our next purchase. I hope she makes it over the rockies....

Well, the F-150 threw in the towel. We are stuck in Price, UT with a truck that won't tow the E4 past 50mph and is knocking/bucking like a pissed off bull. We changed the fuel filter after getting some******gas in CO, it got better, but its only a crutch. We are going to limp to CA, and get a new DIESEL truck. Wish us the best of luck.

Justin, I'm so sorry to hear about your truck. I had a similar problem on my trip to Utah last year but my issue was probably electronic and it disappear once I got out of the mountains.

Hang in there.

The engine and towing ability is why I got rid of my 2006 F-150. Constantly pinged and sounded like a diesel. Couldn't pull my E-1 up the slightest of grades. Dealerships and Ford factory rep. told me that it was normal. When the rep said "well, what do you want us to do about it", the Ford was traded off the same day. Back on subject, if you don't mind me asking, why Lovelock? There are lots of nice areas in Nevada (i.e. Lamoile Canyon, Great Basin National Park). Nevada is wide open and you can camp just about anywhere you want. Getting hot right now though, low 100's. I'm off on a 3 week photo tour of Nevada on the 26th. Can't wait!
