This is just my 2 cents.
Wife and I are full timing now for 4 years, when we retired we decided to try and live together in the motorhome for a 6 month trial period, we wanted to see if we can put up with each other in a down sized (house) unit After 5-1/2 months, she said lets go and clean out the house. We were married 41 years in Feb.
We did and have not looked back since.
We don't know how long we will be doing this, but as of right now, we don't see an end in sight.

We have been visiting about it and have decided that we will, indeed, begin planning on doing it. Timetable of 2 years from now.
We have so darned much stuff to give away, sell, throw away, etc - that it's simply going to take time.
I think we will likely rent a storage pod, or something similar, in which certain good things will be stored for whenever our "Exit" has to be executed. Whether that will be the both of us or one or the other planning will help a lot.
Some things we will probably not try and store though - springs and mattresses - couch, chairs, and stuffed things. Better to just plan on buying new at the time.
Appliances will be sold or left with house as they simply cannot be stored very long and then expected to work. Plus - in our twilight years we certainly don't want things that will be causing problems - better to buy new.
I have seen advertised the "storage pods" - big metal containers that they bring for you to fill up and then haul away for storage. Anyone using these and how available are they?
God Bless
