Yesterday while cleaning the rubber roof on my fiver I noticed that the plastic covers and caps are all brittle. Has anyone experienced changing out these items? I don't know if I can do these replacements or should I hire someone who knows what they're doing. If anyone has some advice I would appreciate it.

We had a hail storm here in Texas which damaged all of the roof plastic items.
- Our vent covers had only 2 screws that held the plastic onto the arm that cranks up. The hinge end simply slid off.
- our toilet vent required me to carefully scrape off the existing caulk to get to the heads of the screws holding it. I removed the assembly, caulked carefully under it, put the new one back into place as close the original screw hole alignment as possible and recaulked the result.
- both our A/C covers were also replaced. There were lots of screws but the covers simply slipped of and then new ones slipped on.

I don't have more than about an hour's effort to do everything.

Everything up there that I've ever seen either pops off or unscrews. A trip down to a local RV store should be all you need.

The vent covers have several different hinge designs. Take the old cover with you to the RV store to match the hinge or you will probably be making a second trip.

I just had to change the vent "dome" over the tub. (Crank up kind) Pull the dome as noted, I did it all from outside by just bending the old bracket (mine has the little wheel that keeps it on there. Took it do the dealer and they've got unbreakable ones. Got one, I had to pull all the trim off of it from below to get the crank bracket to get the new one on.

The sun light really takes a toll of thiose poor exposed plastic abs vents and fittings. I make sure that I take a spray bottle of 303 Aerospace up on the roof when I do my 2x yearly roof maintenance check-up, and spray a bit on all of the vent caps, refrig vent, skylight dome, roof vents, antenna assembly, etc. So far I've managed to go a while before having any "crumble in my hands" activity! I also use it on rv doors, exhaust hood vent, abs fenders, the color vinyl decals, window moulding, slideout rubber, tires, etc also. The SoCal sun can be brutal.
