I have seen and heard a lot of talk about mud daubers and screens and maintainance issues. Do we have any? I haven't seen hide nor hair, and no evidence either.

I've never seen any up here, so I wouldn't worry about the furnace screens etc. just yet.

Instead, we have windshield-attacking gravel, ravenous skeeters, and really big bears.

That's very kind of you. However, social customs dictate that we reciprocate. How many billion Alaskan mosquito larvae would you like?

Ours are bigger than your, meaner than yours, and multiply faster than yours. Wouldn't be surprised if they ate yours for breakfast!

welsteach, we don't have mud daubers, but we have swallows that do much the same thing! Still got to watch out for any nook or cranny that these busy little... anyway, that these birds can get a nest to hook onto. It would be a good idea to put a screen on the backside of your pinbox (if you have a fiver) or anyplace else you can think a small bird might want to call home!

Alaska DOES have paper wasps and you need to look under the eaves and places that are weather protected for them and their nests. It takes them a while to build so if you see them building them you have time to get rid of them before they are habitable for them.
