Both the standard Maxxair and the Maxxair II vent covers are not recommended for use w/ the popular Fantastic Fan. They recommend the Fan Mate which is about twice the cost. The Fan Mate also appears due to its design to perhaps hinder air flow from natural convection, i.e. when the vent is open but the fan is not running. Are there any owners out there that have experience with either model used w/ Fantastic Fan that can share the love?

Look at the MaxxAir 800. It works well with the vent/fan I have in the bathroom.

We have the standard Maxair on all of our Fantastic Fan vents and they work just fine. Only mod I did was to remove the un-necessary way too fine mesh screen they put in the cover and replace it with 1/4" mesh wire to keep the hornets out from under the cover. The fine mesh screen restricts the air flow too much.

We have a Fanmate and it works great. It was designed for use with the Fantastic fans. There's no problem with natural convection, nor do we find any problem (air restriction) with the fine mesh screen that it comes with. Air flow is fine.

I'm using one of each. Standard over the bathroom fan and FanMate over the Fantastic Fan. No problems with air movement, at any time.

Seldom, if at all, have the Fantastic Fans on more than 1 to 2 spots above the very slowest speed and do not believe either the Fan Mate or MaxAir/MaxAir II to be so restrictive as to cause any damage to the Fantastic Fan. Also, believe neither of the three will hinder natural convection.

Fantastic Vent says that vent covers should not be used on any of their vents due to flow restriction when the fan is on high. I haven't put them on our present DSDP, with two Fantastic Fans. Did have them on our 2000 DSDP with two Fantastic Fans also. On it we couldn't use the high flow model due to clearance with the shower skylight. So I used the small unit, couldn't really tell any difference.

I use the standard MaxxAir and it does restrict how for the vent opens and does limit the air flow slightly. Not sure why that would be a problem. Any time you restrict the flow on a fan, it reduces the load anyway.

I thought the problem was the height of the lid when raised all the way? With the auto raise there is no way to stop it until it get all the way up.
