Same here and I've been retired for almost 18yrs. No significant health issues, new trailer and home has been paid for many years ago and have been debit free for the last 15 years while raising two sons and getting them thru college debit free with 20K and 25K grad gifts from us. All this on my retired military pay living in one of the highest cost areas in the U.S. ... Fairfax County Virginia. And before you ask this is not from "old money" or inheritances, but from us managing our money and not trying to keep up the them "Darn Jones" up here.

We are much better off now.
Some curious reply's. Nevada's cost of living is up 23% for one person. Must be including losses at the Casinos. Or need to cut back on the French truffles. Another person who owns a class A motorhome has their economy going south because of the price of fuel. Maybe they need to change hobbies. Almost nobody likes the cost of fuel increasing. But you can control the impact to your finances.
Thank a soldier for your freedom.
Good Luck.

Way worse. Not panicking, just practicing some good belt-tightening procedures.

It's a dumb question. For example, take any four year period of your life and ask yourself if you were better off at the end of those four years. It's conceivable that most of us are AS well off and are perfectly happy with that status. Where does it state that every four years we must be better off?

One consistent theme in this thread is that the people in Michigan need to get out of there.

What's four years? The question should be "Are you better off than your parents or grandparents?" My Grandparents worked hard everyday, and once a week their kids got a treat on payday of one bottle of soda and one candy bar. They didn't have central heating, A/C,a dishwasher, washer and dryer, or a second car, let alone a garage to keep a car in. My Parents were a little better off, as to having a furnace and not the old coal stoves. My parents didn't always have a second car and they had a small garage to keep one of the cars in. My parents went through the high interest rates and high gas prices and shortages of the 70's, just as my grandparents lived through the depression. Things go in cycles, and while I wish some things was still like they was years ago, we sure have it alot better than my grandparents and parents had it back in their day.

As to the article: the last sentence (in parentheses) of the second to last paragraph says it all. Anyone who would put limits on legitimate profit is not a capitalist. And therefore is disregarded by me on the topic of economics.
Edited for grammar.
