Hey guys,

I'm looking for an interim solution while I wait on purchasing a good monitor. Can anyone suggest a digital gauge(s) for monitoring voltage and amperage? One device that displays both numbers would be ideal, however, they'll be mounted in the battery compartment so appearance isn't too important.

Seems like digital voltage displays are easy to find, it's finding an affordable amperage display thats posing a problem. Spending $80 - $100 on a gauge makes no sense when $140 will get a good all around monitor system. I suppose that an analog amperage meter would be fine as it's precise voltage readings that are needed.

Thoughts would be appreciated.

There are several digital battery monitors.. One of the best is the LINK system, I believe it's made by Xantrex, monitors amperage, voltage, state of charge (Estimated) battery condition and more

http://www.xantrex.com/web/id/237/p/1/pt/5/product.asp

Have two banks of batteries to monitor... Try the LINK-20 (like to if from the above page)

I bought a digital panel meter to know when to start the generator.
Then I bought a Blue Sea analog ammeter to know when to shut off the generator.

If you are going to eventually buy a battery monitor you may as well just do that now.

That's the answer I'm coming to. I thought buying a voltage and amperage meter might be a cheap interim solution but pricing just doesn't make sense to do so.

If you just want a cheesey meter till later on, here's a digital VM that appears to work just fine, for less than $20. They are also available at camping World, in the store, in the electrical section. Checkout http://www.rvtoyoutlet.com/p-RVST558167.html, they might still carry them.

Be sure to also check out the Trimetric 2020 from Bogart Engineering. I have been very pleased with it's performance and functionality for 8 years now.

I like the cost and functionality of the Trimetric but the looks don't gear well for me and a permanent install.
