A friend just bough a 1968 travel trailer (forget the make/model). The previous owner said that you hook up an air hose to pressurize the water tank instead of using an electric water pump. There is an air fitting.
There are some pipes that need to be repaired, so he hasn't tested it yet.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of system? Any concerns, tips, tricks, etc.?
He bough it to pull with his 1968 Plymouth Fury wagon, which will be very cool!

That things an antique! Pressurizing with air? I guess that system is more like a "house" system. Maybe I'm not as old as I think. That's a new one on me.
Hey by the way, when is that little guy gonna shift into forth gear?

Some of the pressure tank style had an on-board air compressor.
The pressure cap is very hard to locate. If it is bad you will need to look for awhile.
My old neighbor converted to a demand pump. His had the air compressor. It was a very easy switch out.

I've owned a couple of trailers that used the pressurized tank system for water. They work OK when they're working correctly. I had one that we used a tire pump on to get the air pressure and another that had a built in air compressor that you could turn on and off from inside the trailer. Biggest problem they had was the water pressure was variable. As the pressure gets low the water comes out very slow and with full pressure it's pretty good. The cap on the water fill had a valve stem type fitting on which you connected the air pump. I haven't seen one of those in quite a few years though.

I had an old Pickup Camper (Bee Liner) with a set up like that, except that I had a compressor pump to pressurize the system. You could also use an air hose on the fillup cap. It would not be too hard to convert a 12 volt compressor to do the job..

I had a '72 Golden Falcon that had that set up. When I acquired it, it was 25 years old and compressor did not work. It was very easy to go to Walmart and pick up a 12 volt on demand pump and put it in the supply side. Worked great only not much capacity.

AAH the good old days... mine had a hand pump inside or you could add air at the fill cap... it was only a cold water system but it worked as good as was expected in those days...
the system is good but we are spoiled and expect more today than it will deliver for most of us...

I had 2 trailers with that type of system: a '71 Roadrunner & a '77 Aristocrat. The Roadrunner came with a valve stem on the pressure cap that you could use to pressurize the system with an air hose. It also had a hand operated air pump in the galley that would pump pressurized air into the system. I eventually added a 12 v. air compressor that worked like a charm. The Aristocrat came equipped with a 12 v. compressor. Nothing wrong with the pressure-type system. It worked very adequately.

the old steel water tanks you add air pressuse to push out the water instead of pumping it ,you could change it over to the newer style ,you need a pump and a new plastic water tank if you think the camper is worth it.

I only have 3.23 gears, so if I wind it up, I might not hit 4th by the end of the 1/4. Either that or it's just a 1/8 mile track.
