I have a 400 cc scooter that I bought a used scooter rack for. Its a pretty solid rack but I was told my reciever hitch was not beefy enough for a scooter that size. I think mine weighs over 300 lbs.

I loaded it up once but didnt have the guts to go down the road with it. With the length of the reciever and hitch, theres just too much leverage by the time you get to the rack, that I dont think its wise to load that much weight on it.

So until I find a better way, I have to leave the scooter home, and thats one of the reasons I bought the scooter, so I could haul it camping. If someone has an idea that might work, I'd love to hear it.

Now for a 50 cc scooter, I'm sure that wouldnt be a problem. I'd definitely load a small scooter on my rack.

Custom Motorcycle carrier

Heres one. Its also possible to carry a scooter next to the cab of the truck if you have a trailer with an extended hitch that was designed for shortbed trucks and you have an 8' bed. You have to of course remove the hitch. In the winter time its not unusual to see snowbirds with scooters or streetlegal dirtbikes either on the rear of the trailer or mounted to the front of their pickup.

here is the one I use - works fine:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MOTORCYCL........474QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200221549474&

for my 49cc MZ moskito

Be sure you get one that is wide enough for the width of your scooter tires. I wound up with one that was too narrow and had to sell on craiglist.com.

Bought a Versa haul 50cc Scooter carrier with Cargo Rack last week. And bought scooter today. Will be bringing 5th wheel May 19th to Trailers and Hitches to get a heavy duty receiver hitch installed.
