I am thinking of upgrading my kingdome for the new winegard traveler HD 5lnb satellite dish. However on the Direct TV website, Direct Tv states that they launched a new satellite on March 19th that will add new HD channels and they plan on launching another bird next year that will add more channels. If I upgrade now will I be obsolete next year. Called winegard and direct Tv and got no good answer.

You should be OK, but remember you have to get an HD Receiver. I installed my HD set-up at home in 2006 and when they launched the new satellites I had no problem.

There is a new HD DTV dish coming out soon....It will be smaller and have 3 lnbs that will get ALL the HD regular and locals available after all the moving is done...so I think your big 5 lnb will continue to work when this change comes, it will just be bigger and more complex than necessary....I am holding off for its arrival...Most of my camping is under the trees and I have to plant my 5 lnb dish on my Bullseye..

larry,

Thanks for the info. I have an HD 20 receiver at the house that I use when camping in the RV. It has an HD television. Based on your info, I think I will wait also since my kingdome is working fine. Thanks

The problem with the new dish coming soon is that Directv's idea of soon may not match your idea of soon and if it comes out you will still have to wait for the aftermarket manufacturers to incorporate it to work like your Kingdome. It took Winegard at least to years to develop and release the Travler after the 5 LNB was released by Directv. For those reasons I just recently installed the Winegard SK-3005 and I really am happy. Push one button and two minutes later it has locked on to all of the satellites.
