After much deliberation between the hubby and I. We have finally (I use the term loosely) decided we want to go the motorized route. Honestly it is so hard to make a decision when we go out to look there are things I like about both motorized or towable.
That being said what are some of the pro's and cons between the two. Who here has owned both? I think I read a thread in the Class C forum about how convenient a class c is compared to a class a. Easier to drive, and maneuver.
We are a family of 5, my dh and I and our 4 y/o, 3 y/o and 7 month old.
Thanks for any input you can give, and if you have any links feel free to fill me in!!!

The biggest difference between a "C" and an "A" is that you may have more beds in the "C." As for driving and maneuverability, I actually found that the "A" was easier for me to drive than the three previous class "C" rigs. You sit much higher in an "A" and you look along a flat wall in your mirrors so you know exactly where you are at all times.

But the best thing for you to do, is to go out and test drive both types. And be sure you try several of each because there can be a great deal of difference between one rig and another. Finally, don't rush a decision and have fun looking.

We are looking at used units, 20K to 50K staying closer under the 30K amount.

family of 5, I would be considering the room of the (A) there's lots of nice bunk models that are not that much more money for what you get, also more storage,I think you need that.auto levers,10gal water heater, larger shower, more counter space for those p.b.js,the gassers most have the same motor so for gas mpg stay with a smaller (A) & it will be comparable. it is all about family fun. good luck.

I own both a C and an A and the A is more comfy and easier to drive and to go longer. I have more space adn CCC too. If I am going on a short trip the Bornfree is wonderful but for a long trip the Foretravel gets the nod. If I could only have one I would have the FOretravel. Now put it another way. You will upgrade to a A sooner or later anyway. You might look for a bunk bed model a few years old and get that and keep it for a while. Towing a jeep or another type of vehicle is a breeze. I have driven a Foretravel over 185,000 miles in the last 6 years or so.....It is not hard to drive at all and I have gotten into every place I want too.

Though your price range might make finding a bunk bed Class A harder to come by

We are in the process of moving up to a Class A. We have had 2 class Cs and I had a Class A several years ago. We are spending more and more time in ours and would like to have more room. We thought that the C we have now would take care of our future needs, but soon found out that bigger is better. What I would do is rent one of the Cs and try it for a weekend outing and then rent a Class A and see what works best for your family. A very cheap expense when your are looking at spending 30 plus. Good luck...

you need to also consider your towing needs now and in the future. Most class A units will have considerably more towing capacity. With a family of 6, our toys change over time, but our class A has the versatility to adapt.

I hate to throw a wrench into the fan but I did read that you said...
"We are a family of 5, my dh and I and our 4 y/o, 3 y/o and 7 month old." and you want a "C"? Woweee you guys are gonna be alot "closer" of a family then you are right now.

We have a "C" only because it's the mrs. and me. No kids, etc. We pull a car around with us, (toad) and always drive it around to explore where ever we land, hence under the name at the top left "always rollin". So we are hardly ever at camp. Now with 3 kiddies and a rainy day and a class C, you're going to hate it FAST. Class C's really aren't that big and ROOMY as an A.

Now, if I was in your shoes, I would go out and get a 5th wheel trailer, (if you already have something to pull it with) otherwise go with a class A. Believe me, C's are NOT that big. Sure you could put the 3 & 4 yr old up in the overhead bunks to play and the 7 month old would stay down with you and hubby, but... that room cramps up quick.

I wish you good luck in whatever you finally decide because there is nothing like getting in your RV and hitting the road to explore new places.

Post the same question in the Class C forum and see if the replies differ?

Seriously you can get both in the same length and it is more will it met your needs or not. We almost when C because our daughter wanted the cab over for her domain but at the last minute when with an A that was a couple feet long, less money and 7 years newer and located 100 miles vs. 1000 miles away. It was bang for the buck in our case. Since a C is a standard van they do not seem so strange to many shops if you need service and parts. I do like the 19.5 wheels on the A vs. 16" on the C plus as of yet we have never bottomed out the tail due to the 208" wheel base. It did take a few trips to judge handling due to being much higher and sitting on the front bumper.
