In June wife and I are taking our 1st long trip from CA to Gettysburg PA with 2 grandkids. Just bought TV and 5th wheel last January so still have a lot to learn. This forum has been very educational.
Will be needing an oil change on the trip and was wondering what everyone else does? This is also my 1st diesel vehicle and the price out here is murder.
I did a search but could'd find anything on this.

I used Jiffy Lube for my fluid change(rear end ,trans and oil) while we were in Fl for the winter.

We fulltime. I carry oil filters for diesel, Mopar in our case, and go to Walmart for oil changes. They carry 15/40 Rotella oil, made for diesels. I hand them the filter and they charge $40.00 for the oil and labor. I stand behind the fence and watch to make sure they use my filter and the proper amount of oil, in our case 12 qts.

If you are a TDR member find a member on the travel guide and ask what they use or where they would go.
You might also ask this same question on any of the many diesel forums like diesel bombers, DTR, TDR, cummins forum. I'm sure you will get help on the right place to go local at your destination.

There are several options. First is to have it done at a Dodge dealership. I myself carry along a Fleetguard filter and then have a 10 minute station to do the service. Be careful about the oil that may be dispensed out of a bulk tank. If a good brand isn't evident, I'll go to Walmart for Rotella or Valvoline brand, but the latter is sometimes hard to find. Also you may need to tell them to fill the filter with one quart of oil before installing it.
I also carry a fuel filter and the necessary socket to change it out. Never have had a bad batch of fuel but it pays to be prepared.

OK, I will display my ignorance. What makes Rotella Oil any different than anyother oil for diesels. Yeah, I got a 2006, but I got it used, and I'm still a newbie. However I am willing to learn.
BTW. I'm a big believer in synthetic oil. My daily driver is a Tacoma with over a quarter million miles on it and doesn't use any oil. It has had synthetic since day one.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

Caution when using other than experienced diesel maintenance shops. I heard of a guy (on this forum) that took his diesel to Wal-Mart for an oil change. The did a great job, the only problem was the grease monkey that did his job only put in the amount of oil he was use to for all the cars he had done in the past…that’s right he only put in 4 to 5 quarts of oil. Check before you start the engine.

How many miles between changes? I would run my truck until I returned and just top off oil along the way. I do my own changes.

We go to a Ford dealership wherever we may be every 5000 miles or so - all my service info is in their computer - very careful about the servicing as it sometimes helps nip potential problems if discovered early - don't want problems with the TV, especially far from home and / or in the middle of nowhere

Go to a dealership. It might cost a few bucks more, but you'll have the peace of mind that the job is likely done right and fully backed up. Do run the full oil change mileage shown in your owner's manual. There is really no benefit to the engine to shorten that. Modern engines and modern oils are so much better these days that the oil drain intervals are very safe for the engine.
I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.
