My dealer installed a voyager brake controller in to my 2002 Silverado to tow my 2008 23SS Roo. My problem is I’m having one heck of a time in getting the brake controller adjusted so when I start braking the truck it doesn't lock up the trailer tires. I've watched and watched the video that came with it and I just can't get them set.

Any help would greatly appreciated as were getting ready to head out of town and the DW doesn’t feel comfortable riding in the truck while pulling the trailer.

Am I better off to pull out the voyager and install a different brake controller that sets-up easier or keep trying to get the voyager set.

Again thanks for all the help.

I've got 70,000 miles with my voyager on two different trailers and couldn't ask for anything more than it's done. It SOUNDS like you've got the gain turned up too high. Back off some on the left hand knob would be my suggestion. Good luck / Skip

I was not as lucky as Skip. I threw my Voyager in the trash after our first trip. Never could get it to work like I wanted. I LOVE my Prodigy. I would suggest getting money back on Voyager and getting a Prodigy. Difference is like nite and day.

I had a voyager thru 3 trailers but just removed it and replaced it with the P3. I like that P3.

Where is your power control set? Mine is set almost straight up and it does pretty well. I tried setting it by the instructions, thought it was close, and proceeded to darn near throw myself through the windshield. They seem to like to be set a little light on both the power and gain with a smaller size trailer.

When I towed my 31 foot trail lite with my Ford F250 I didnt have any problems with the Voyager. I just towed last weekend with my new 2007 Dodge 3500. I wouldn't say I had a problem but took a few stops to get it dialed in.

The new Dodge's have a factory installed exhaust brake, essentially a jake brake for practical terms. The first stop I wnet to make from 55 locked up the trailer brakes. The exhaust brake and the tow/haul mode slows the rig down with out having to hit the service brakes until the last 10-15 mph or so and had the power turned up too high. I had to keep turning it down but got to the point where they didn't lock up. I lke the Voyager but will probably end up going to a Prodigy or P3.

Just takes a little trail and error is all.

There is something wrong with your setup. Most brake controllers will not activate until the truck brake lights are on. If the trailer brakes are activating without application of the truck brakes there is a serious wiring error.

The trucks brake lights come on with the EB?

He said the EB slowed him down to about 10-15mph and THEN he used the trucks brake to finish stopping. That is what activated the brake light and when he got the hard braking.
