US oil companies export diesel fuel and import gas. Without being regulated in favor of the consumer, big oil is going to do what is most profitable for them on a global scale. And the spin masters who profit from big oil will conjure up all kinds stories to justify it and shift blame. And some will actually believe it.
Sadly, a lot of other countries see our American government as horribly evil and untrustworthy. Even more sadly, a lot of American citizens feel the same way. Some of us want to change that image.

I honestly believe that the reason diesel has gotten so high is the U.S. is consuming so much in our wars overseas, I was told to have my joes burn our urine and******with diesel in Iraq. That is a whole lot of diesel for waste disposal! Not to mention that it takes up to 11 gallons of diesel to fire up an Abrams tank. After seeing the waste I cannot believe that the war machine's consumption has nothing to do with it.

Taken from Global Security.org:
# Fuel Consumption A tank will need approximately 300 gallons every eight hours; this will vary depending on mission, terrain, and weather. A single tank takes 10 minutes to refuel. Refueling and rearming of a tank platoon--four tanks--is approximately 30 minutes under ideal conditions. 0.6 miles per gallon.
# 60 gallons per hour when traveling cross-country
# 30+ gallons per hour while operating at a tactical ideal
# 10 gallons basic idle
# A mine plow will increase the fuel consummation rate of a tank by 25 percent

I hear ya Dave! Been wonderin' the exact same thing. When I bought my CTD just two years ago, diesel was between Reg. and Mid Grade, now it's 20% higher than Premium!!! The only consolation I have is I get roughly the same or better mileage with my 1 ton then my hot rod buddies do with their V8 powered rockets or SUVs.

Why haven't we heard from OPEC in all of this?
Seems like we used to hear what OPEC was going to increase or decrease their output every time one of their camels dropped another dingleberry.

Now? Nothing.

Why have we not seen our president on TV addressing this issue?
He's been on TV before for lesser reasons. I'm not blaming him for the high prices, I'm blaming him for remaining silent.

I think what the pres and congress ought to do immediately is stop the export of diesel to ANY other country.

That might get the industry's attention.

So companies are not allowed profits? or just Oil companies...
(shell oil 8.3%, that is not a big profit margin)
Some of us Americans see "Change" coming that is not quite what we want. Change that will be FAR worse than what we have today, which is lower taxes, low unemployment...

Big Oil...it's not the problem, Supply and Demand is....
We cannot refine what our Demand is, and the Greenies wont let us pump our supply.
Oh, and who gives a******about what "other" countries think? DEFINATELY not I.
Called my wife in Kuwait today, she is on another deployment, so the kids could wish her a happy mothers day.

To original poster...economics 101 or more basic, supply and demand always sets the price whether it be fuel, grapes, gold or etc. What I don't get is why we don't mind paying $1.00 for a pint of designer water=whats that $4.00 per gallon.
