When did you get your letter. We are supposed to be there the same time and have not heard anything. You would think they would have something on the news here in Alaska at least.

We got the letter saying we had been moved(for the 2nd week in June) about a week ago, we leave tomorrow or the next day. They may not send out letters to locals til closer to the time. Good thing Denali was in the early part of the trip.
Not sure how they will melt the pit toilets, which are very full of ice. This flooding is the first time in 50 years for the Tek area. 50 years ago Tek campground was not even there.

That is what I was thinking too. I sent them an email to see what I could find out. I will post here when I do find out something.

The letter was dated April 30.

Here is the reply I received back from Denali Nat'l park about Teklanika Campground.
Hello -
Thanks for your email. We're fairly confident that, by July, the campground will be in good shape. It has already started melting out with some (finally, and very welcome) warmer temperatures, and I could see the campground being ready before July - but to err on the safe side, we're allowing reservations made July 1 and onward to stand / be accepted, but make no promises for dates prior to July 1. So it sounds like you're in luck!
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
All the best,

Great! We have reservations for 4 days starting Memorial Day. Hmmmmm! Not a word from Denali people. We have been on the road since early April so, no mail.
Oh well, this is the difference between taking a bus tour or cruise where all the thinking & problem solving are done for you. To date, we have been winging it all the way & have had our little adventures including getting snowed in at a closed COE cg. Very helpful staff there. We hit Dawson tomorrow & TOW next week. One way or another we will deal with an iced up TEK.

The Fairbanks area temperatures are forecast to be in the upper 60°F range by the end of the this weekend. In the grand scheme of nature, 2 to 3 feet of ice in the Interior of Alaska is not that much or unusual. Many of the rivers and lakes will have 4 or 5, or more, feet of ice on them by this time of year. They always melt, it seems. Mid to late June should have most/all of the ice at Tek melted, as it is in the open and not shaded by any mountains, tall trees etc. that I remember. By Memorial Day, probably not a good chance of it being ready to go but they should have other places for folks to camp. Remember that camping in the ice and snow can be a fun adventure also. LOL
